Hmm was Rainer confused around 01:37:00 that the compiler didn't scream? Because I thought that was the point of the RefCell, and that it would do something (panic?) at runtime only?

@1:15:05 - "Rust is not hard to learn - people pick it up really quickly". Depends. Are you C/C++/Haskell/Scala dev, then yes - likely easy for that crowd. If coming from other languages like C#, Java, typescript, javascript, VB, Python, Ruby - No - most of these guys won't learn it. A small percent. Just takes too long to get past the hump. Their brain has been trained differently ... Some Java developers will. The good Java devs. If someone told them they HAVE TO in order to continue their career, or something like that, then more would force themselves, but right now, that's not the case. First, it has to be sold as a "general purpose programming language", and not a "system language" for the "memory managed" crowd to take a look. They're not system programmers ... They're app devs. They don't see it as part of their domain. You know how many times I've ever even thought about memory in OO. Using "Object pools" to save having to drop / reallocate/initialize - that's about it. Moving data into variables instead of successive hash table lookup - yeah, some of us understand that prevents having to look it up again in the hashtable, and possibly loads it in a register. That's about it (save Delphi and Objective-C, for me, which were both a smaller part of my career, and both had some partial memory management). We don't think in terms of "types mean memory". To us, a type is what you use to create an instance ... 😅 100% practical, 0% understanding of what goes on under the hood.
