Troy Built TBA675 EC pull start repair

This works for a quick repair but there is an underlying issue as it will eventually happen again. To the point now where it happens every pull. Have found a drill adapter that troybuilt sells for 9$ that works like a charm. So I no longer use the pull start.

Thanks. It worked well for a while but started repeating the problem more frequently. They make a drill adapter so I went with that when this fix stopped working. When I get the time (hahahaha) I'm going to get the parts to actually fix it.

Watched this last year and fixed my trimmer. Broke again a couple weeks ago, pulled this video up again to refresh my memory and now it's running again. Thanks for this.

@@garyjerniganjr Guess who has to take their TB675 apart again. Pulled the rope to start it, got it to idle then choked it out with too much throttle. Pulled the rope again and heard the clutch pop loose. This makes the 5th or 6th time in 5 years I've had to "fix" this.
@@MC-tn8pm yeah. The last time it did it to me I almost destroyed it against a tree. Ended up buying a sthil trimmer and pole saw to replace it. I bought the drill attachment and it cranked fine with that but the engine itself started having problems.
@@garyjerniganjr I've debated the drill attachment but that just means if it chokes out and dies, now I have to go find my drill.

How did you get the housing off?
if i remember correctly their are 4 screws, T25 I think, that you have to take off. They were torqued on pretty good.
This thing is a pos I will never buy this name brand ever I will tell anyone who will listen. I had this week packet for less than 3 months and it broke .
i dont think lowes even carries troybuilt anymore since they picked up craftsman. i have since moved to sthil although i still have the troy power head for the pole saw attachment, which is the last one not to break.

I have the 685 , now a metal part(s) to engage and the new problen is the plastic on the starter wears and starter no longer engages ( again - same problem after their "repair" solution ) I haven't found a parts replacement yet and think it utterly stupid to have to carry a portable drill and buy a adapter to fix their design defect .

So i get my new starter housing installed. Feel proud and I pull the cord and it won’t turn. I found this video and bingo! This is probably the best tidbit I’ve ever found on RUclips.

what is crazy... all of us have the same problem... the two springs pushing the plastic wears out. I think this might be a manf. recall. Or send the people some free springs???
here is the proper part... wings are called pawls: The only way that you can obtain the pawls is by ordering the Craftsman part number 753-08159 www.ereplacementparts.com/pawl-kit-p-1756995.html This tool is made for Craftsman by Troy-Bilt. We don't have the Trot Bilt TB685EC in our system as of yet but it will be in there soon.

we got the engine to start using your tutorial (thanks you're a life saver) the only problem is that the string won't go back into the weed eater...any suggestions?
Stefanie McGraw if it won't go back in there is more than likely a problem with the spring.

Crimsontide798 troybuilt is an mtd product I believe. If you Google troybuilt parts you should be able to find it. Just have the model number

Had the same problem. The starter pawls and springs need to be replaced. Pretty easy fix, the part # Mtd 753-08159 (Line Trimmer Recoil Starter Pawl Kit). It cost about $4.
Thanks! I was looking for that part number. That's exactly what's needed to resolve this issue. Too bad the first one only lasted a couple of seasons. I don't expect any better from the replacement. :(

this trimmer has a problem. when started it is a superior tool. the problem is in the pull start set up. bad design. i think they intended everyone buy the starter too. they should eliminate that cord start all together. ive also used mine less than ten times taken it apart ten times to fix it. on pull broke again. worthless. now to find drill bit starter.
Just don't buy a troy-bilt. Mine broke in fewer than ten uses.
I forgot to mention, I called troy-bilt and they sent me here. That was their solution.

abdullah hotaki I'm glad. sadly the problem happened again yesterday. tried Thu same repair and it worked for two starts then messed up again. only used it as a pole saw. Will prob go pick up a sthil today

Ok stupid question. How do you get the top screw off to access the part. It seems to be stuck on and turn.
of I remember correctly the bolt was torqued on pretty tight. used a good screw driver possibly with a pair of vise grips locked on to help with leverage
