Rocks were collected off the land so as not to break cultivating equipment....tough days back then horse and cart, and them collected rocks put to use as a stable base for fencing...Top of that range the rainfall drops away rapidly as you head East to the Murray River. I worked on GM2 as an apprentice in Port Augusta and my brother used to drive it.

I have absolutely no idea why anybody would bother going to Hahndorf. It's just a congested little tourist hole with overpriced coffee shops and Chinese trinkets.

Small correction I am new to the channel btw. That is not Hahndorf railway museum it is actually Port Adelaide railway museum.

I haven't seen the Port Adelaide Railway Museum for a few years - time to go back. I'm from the Tea and Sugar era and hope that they still have a good display of it (though I think I saw the white butchers car there). Many thanks for rekindling the memories :)

From the looks of this they have a rail museum twice the size of the Nsw rail Heritage museum at Thilmere NSW.

Actually I like this narrow version better that the wider Chinese ones , I'm sure you've got it all figured out by now 🤣 , the footing looks a bit narrow ? Hate it to fall over .
