Magnet Fishing - Carolina State Parks is on a mission to clean up the State Parks, while finding the occasional treasure. We believe in the philosophy of leaving the park a little cleaner than we found it.
Campsite Reviews - We have access to great campsites at the State Parks, we hope to provide a little insight on each of these campsites to help encourage visitors to Carolina State Parks.

Instead, we spent an afternoon at the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, North Carolina where we mimicked an "American Ninja Warrior" course using the Whitewater center's obstacle challenge. Let us know what you think and enjoy the video!
We Fished Up a Zip Line
Просмотров 456 лет назад
While magnet fishing in NC’s Lake Norman, we happened upon a sunken Harken sailing block (pulley) and managed to pull it up. We have no idea how long it was on the lake floor, but amazingly it still worked like a charm. We repurposed it for some backyard fun with the kids and after some simple knot engineering, we’d realized that we essentially FISHED UP A ZIP LINE! Let us know in the comments ...

In a good breeze a Sunfish on it's side will move downwind surprisingly fast, it won't turtle while moving, and it won't stop until you right it. Should it get away from you it may move faster than you can swim. Keep contact with the boat, and if you right it fast before it turtles it's simple. Racers dive under the boat, grab the daggerboard and pull it upright in no time. It's a good trick to learn when you're comfortable with everything else. Also there's no lines, rudder, or mast to get in your way.
Head into the wind and get in on leeward side.
Great video.
Wish someone would start before the clips have been put on. Brand new. No p e does this
Hallelujah! Thank you!!
You didn't demonstrate what to do with the daggerboard.
The real #1 thing is to wear a life vest, it makes everything much easier. You can relax a lot more. Have a good bungie on the daggerboard. Keep in mind it is much easier in flat water/low wind like this.
I think I'll do it myself this week. I just got instructions from woodglut and I'm ready for it: D
Starboard side on mast ring. Put a cleat on mast and tie it off there 1st. and then down to deck, less stress on deck hardware. They also have a stainless steel round plate to go into bottom of mast cavity.
Great video. I've sailed a Sunfish for a number of years successfully without a lot the extra rigging you used to secure the sail to the mast. Just my thoughts. Thanks again.
Did you miss the tip about tying the halyard to the sail, so when sailing downwind you get extra leverage? I’ve watched a lot of Sunfish videos and never saw that before. Kudos, great video!
My cousin started his life of antiques by fishing the BEACH with a metal detector to see what he'd find. Now he owns and runs an antique mall in Maine and tends out booths to antique retailers
Fun video
Thanks for posting!
Thank you for posting.
This video was perfect! Just what the kids and I needed to rig our “new to us” Sunfish!! Not too little, not too much, just right!
With 47 yrs of Sunfishing behind me, my first question is, Why wasn’t the mast in the sail bundle and though the gooseneck to begin with?
The pleasure is so good she squirted 1:00 😂😂😂
What trailer is that?
thats just a beach trailer. not a highway use trailer.
it’s a dolly
Nice video. I'm always comparing to see if there's any new insights. Thanks.
Good video, I appreciate the instruction. But what if it's really windy on that dock? No way you could hoist that sail if the wind is kickin on that dock.
Thank you for the comment. If it's so windy that it would be too difficult to hoist the sail then you probably shouldn't be going out in a small boat like the Sunfish. That said, if it was actually windier than the conditions that we recorded in, all you need to do is be sure to point the bow of the boat into the direction of the wind and it should be no more difficult to hoist the sail at that point. As mentioned in the video, pulling up on the goose neck while hoisting with the halyard is a good way to overcome any resistance that you might face.
Lol that cleat won’t hold if you actually go sailing
Funny story...I was out the other day on a sunfish and apparently I did not tie off the cleat correctly. Long story short the sail fell and I started to drift into a "No Boat Zone". I had to make a quick judgement call to jump off the boat and swim it out. This goes to show you how important it is to tie the cleat correctly :) Thank you for the comment!
Carolina State Parks That’s funny😂😂😂. No hate intended from me. Nice video!
Why would Caroline wall say "no hate intended from me"? Hmm.... 🤔
Is this river usually crowded in summer time I'm looking to get into fly fishing and this place is only 1.5 hours from my house
This is a great river and probably worth the drive. We drive a little over an hour to visit this river. Yes the river does get crowded however we are able to find a spot. Also, if your are starting out it’s great to run into people that are familiar with the area to ask questions and pick up some advise. I hope you will enjoy fly fishing!
@@carolinastateparks5445 Thanks as long as its fishermen i dont mind I just dont want to have to worry about a tourist the I dont want to hook. Do you do much dry fly fishing here?
Very thorough walk-through of rigging. Thank you for sharing.
What rod and reel do you use? I'm new to fly fishing, thanks
I use a Redington Fly Fishing Crosswater Outfit with Crosswater Reel 5 Wt 9-Foot 4pc Rod.
@@carolinastateparks5445 thanks
You were on fire! Really nice fish ... looked like a great day.
Best to use flat tape for tree straps rather than rope. Does less damage to the tree bark.
Good video but that's not a cleat hitch: www.animatedknots.com/cleatvert/
Thank you for watching our video! We are always looking to improve our channel, as such any feedback is greatly appreciated.
Very good Video, this place is incredible. Have a great week and lots of fish on the line! *HUG!* 👍😊
Thank you! This is one of our favorite state parks. We are still looking for the big one...
Thanks for all of the important info!!! That info will be the first thing that comes to my mind in the case that I capsize or turtle a sunfish.
Great! Stay safe out there.
Nice throw!!!!! :)
Who's winning it out there?
Ben won this battle, but the war is just beginning.
Bravo ... well narration and video was great!
Thank you, glad you like it.
Looks like fun! Oh, and nice edit. ;)
Thank you this was very helpful
Great to hear!
Really good video demonstration. Clear narrative, good video overall - thanks for doing this! Cheers from Canada.
+Rob Haskell Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video.
I'm not very good with knots at all. I'm only know how to tie my shoes 😊
It's one of those things that requires a good dose of repetition. I've been involved in rescue for 6+ years and rope work is a low frequency--high risk activity. If you don't do it often, or struggle to remember them, you might try the family of Figure 8 Knots. They are harder to mess up because they are much easier to recognize. I have a figure 8 video if you are interested.
Very helpful! Thanks. Which park has sunfish for rent?
+The StarboardTack Lake Norman Community Sailing has member passes, which includes the use of their sunfish. www.lnsailing.org/Default.aspx?tabid=602052
