It actually takes longer if you swing at an angle because at an angle some of your work will be done on the bark and wood directly below the part you are hitting. The larger the angle you swing it at, the more force applied on the parts lower than what you are cutting, the more swings needed to make up for it. You are making a large spot but it’s widening not deepening.

@@FakenameStevens I am not sure if you mean "force on an airplane." or "forces on a 2 dimensional plane"... Neither sound super fun.
@@thehappyfreak 2 dimensional and it’s decent because it’s very applicable and I’m a bit of a physics nerd. By the way a bit of angle chopping would do you some good in that your small axe head could reach the main point you’re striking consistently.
