Much easier to mount the monitor on the left side, that way the sdi port and the input on the monitor are much closer together and only requires a short cable :)

Your first mistake. The standard way to mount it is with feet pointing forward the same direction as lens. If you have a heavy lens it will be more at risk of falling over (forward) if the feet are behind.
