@BGLynxo Pioneer MVH-S120UB
It must be 1MW, not 1kW (again).
😂 Don't do that. They won't have electricity to power the lights on the streets.
"Sound of Hope (SOH) is an international Chinese-language radio network. Along with New Tang Dynasty Television and The Epoch Times, it is part of a network of media organisations established by practitioners of the Falun Gong new religious movement. SOH serves the Chinese diaspora in US, Europe, Australia, Japan and South Korea on mediumwave and FM and broadcasts to China on an extensive number of out-of-band shortwave frequencies. Programmes are in Chinese and Cantonese, and also include relays of Radio Free Asia at times. Transmitter sites: Pingtung and Miaoli, Taiwan - all transmitters are low power - 1 kW or less " British DX Club Asia on Shortwave.
@@PavelYonchev I appreciate that quote, but for the transmitter power info - it's rather unrealistic; for instance, even 10-20 kW stations from W.Europe are barely audible in the E.Europe... Chances are that the "British DX Club" took info from the "short-wave info" site, who can only display 3 digits max for "Pwr", and for 1000kW/1MW stations simply "1" is rendered. I don't have any reliable source on the subject matter, so that's just a guess no one cares... 🤓
@@barmaley-division It's surreal to me too, but in radio reception have moments when the laws of physics that we know don't work.
@@PavelYonchev Let it be so.😌
Now that's the antenna!..
Nice to meet you again! From parts of a soviet radio receiver.

Thanks for the help! For control, I listened to PANASONIC RF-B45 and QODOSEN DX-286 on the same frequency - the same radio station was played there. Only I wasn't happy with QODOSEN's poor performance.
It must be 1MW, RRI is a very powerful broadcaster.
One radio transmission is 1 kilowatt, the other is 300 kilowatts: www.short-wave.info/index.php?station=R.ROMANIA%20INT. In this source is 300 kilowatts: www.bdxc.org.uk/europe.pdf 1 megawatt seems very strong to me, I have never encountered more than 0.5 megawatt on shortwave.
It's a decent receiver for the cost (especially with updated firmware). I have a similar one (smaller and driven by ESP8266), with a decent antenna it requires FM bandstop filter. 👍🏻
Thanks! Agreed :) with my primitive antenna at home. Most receivers are dumbed down by the massive interference overflowing from this cable.
@@PavelYonchev Sure, the cable must be coaxial (75/50 Ohm), but in my case even a 10m-long coax becomes an FM-antenna with the cheap receiver. In its turn, TEF6686 is FM interference-proof on AM/SW.
@barmaley-division ... and that coaxial should be attached to the antenna at least 1.5 meters outside the building, that there should be impedance matching, etc. n. :) I have my sights set on the AM waves.
@@PavelYonchev That would be an ideal scenario... In my case for AM I have a 130 cm telescopic antenna sticking out of the balcony window + grounding. Also, a 25 cm loop antenna which receives all the EMI. I want to try building an anti-interference magnetic (ferrite) antenna - very soon.

Welcome to the world of FMDX
Thanks! ! It's still not, but it's a decent reception. I had an amazing mass FM tropo 3 years ago that got me back into the hobby.
@PavelYonchev On TEF, even without summer tropo, I can still hear two radio stations from a neighbouring country in the late evening - daily; such a mighty radio chip. Antenna is a factor too.
Wow, nice catch! 👍
Hi there, what's the name of your receiver? Greetings from Iran.
The Sony is an analogue champion with great sensitivity! ERT 729 signal is coming strong even daytime in south Bulgaria.
Very nice receiver!
I've never seen the AKAI APW20 before. Personally I wouldn't need 80% of that clutter on its display, and yet, it looks beautiful. Great pick.👍🏻
Thanks! A rare model, that's why I bought it despite the erased inscriptions. It is heard that it manages to pick up weak radio transmitters (if only 1 kW is to be believed). Before it came another Greek radio broadcast, Radio Canados on 1440 kHz with a much stronger signal, but it was towards the end of the night's broadcast. Again, I can't believe it's underpowered, only 2 kW. However, it may turn out to be true. :)
@@PavelYonchev Cool, I haven't heard anything from Greece on MW other than the "Greek pirate", I can hear him literally on the daily basis. There seemed to be a few weak (1-2 kW) Greek radio stations broadcasting these days, let's see if you'll be lucky enough with the new receiver. 🤓
@@barmaley-division Many thanks for the wishes and information! AKAI APW20 still no QODOSEN DX-286, but gives hopes of a very good performance!
The radio is reminiscent of a Grundig G3 design. Also sold as Anjan DTS-09 and BRIGMTON BT354.
@@PavelYonchev Yes, indeed! For some reason it feels like if it was made by Sangean (I mean all 4)
can you please tell me the model of the radio?
Hi, AKAI APW20. That's how I bought it, without the inscriptions. The radio is technically perfect, strongest on FM.

شكرًا لك
👍🏻I heard it last night at the same time, from a similar distance, but much better. Non-tunable passive loop antenna installed on a window frame so that it hangs out. At that power (is it really 600 kW?), the signal feels unreasonably weak.
Thank you! That's the interesting thing. Despite the improved reception, the radio signal does not reach with the usual strength.
@PavelYonchev I don't think it has "improved reception" - it's still an old good SI473* chip; the same or similar to what's in my radio too. 😌
The drawing is not necessary for simplicity or complexity. As I showed, I documented the data of the device, which lacks completeness in the circuit diagram.

Radio Antena Satelor este un radio excelent!
I would like to ask you where reached this station and what kind of radio do you use?
I don't understand the question well. This radio only receives with the internal ferrite antenna. Radio reception in an apartment, without additional devices.
@@PavelYonchev Excuse me. I asked you about the location where you have received the 540 khz frequency and about your device.
@@tamaskovacs6546 Thanks! Ruse, Bulgaria and Eton Field BT Grundig Edition.
I keep checking this radio often. In a city residential area it can be received with better quality using loop antenna; not so good on a telescopic antenna.
An urban area is full of electromagnetic interference. I tried to run away... but I found myself close to a retlanslator.
@@PavelYonchev I have installed two antennas on my balcony, and deliver signal via coaxial; otherwise I wouldn't be able to receive anything but China indoors. 😬 (Long) wire antenna gets polluted by EMI badly, so not in use.
@@barmaley-division Thanks! Electrical grounding? 😃
@@PavelYonchev No grounding in the wall sockets here... Everything is emitting interferences, even concrete walls 😳. I use grounding on the receiver rather 😁 - along the telescopic antenna sticking out of the balcony for MW/LW; SW - I use loop antenna mostly, without any grounding.
Good result, the only issue is intense EMI, I guess. Plus that low whistling - that must be autogenerated by the receiver. Aligning this antenna with the ATS120 (via that 2nd coil?) may produce more stable outcome...
The external oscillating circuit in this case does not amplify of the signal, but only helps to hit the correct frequency. I will do an experiment one day with the ATS 120 through a direct connection, which is the only way possible.
@@PavelYonchev Oh, I see now; indeed, I thought you have intended to create a resonance for amplification. * I have performed a lot of experiments with my SI4732* receiver and external antennas with good results, it autotunes to literally any crappy antenna - so chances are it will work well with MA too.
@@barmaley-divisionThanks! Now a very modern TEF 6686 chip. I don't have a radio with it. I considering over several models, including a car radio.
@@PavelYonchev Yes, trying TEF6686 is a must for any radio lover. It does make difference. BTW, the cheapest one I could get costed me only 38 USD; it has the same circuitry as the early "silver fish tin" ones. Those receivers may produce different results from model to model. I guess the simpler it is the better it would be for experimentation with external antennas. A used TEF6686-based car radio could be a nice variant.
@@barmaley-division The car radio Pioneer MVH-S120UB, for example, has an external FM antenna input. Phenomenal results are possible on these waves. Set up the dipole in an open place and enjoy the scan!
