Thank you. I know about the highs and mids issue- but somehow i am to lazy to buy a program that will allow me to EQ/tone sculp my recordings (i just use audacity and direct in). I have thought about it. I have recently discovered Billy Sheehan and I like his mix of high/mids and low mix. I will look into that. In some of my videos i also doesnt turn up the level high enough (like "striptease"). Maybe i am afraid that it does not sound good enough so I hide it in the mix. Sometimes I play every day, sometimes i dont play for a week. But steadily the learning curve increases. But again; thank you for your advise.

@@Jake_and_the_bass you raise a great point, eq-ing bass is the hardest thing to do in mixing. Either the bass is featured, and everything else gets out of the way, or vice versa. Usually, it’s the latter, more often than not the bass player has to EQ to fit into the mix, you can’t show up to the studio or a gig and expect “your tone” to work. It might, especially if you’re Billy Sheehan and you’re a featured artist, but you also might have to make massive adjustments. My best advice is, listen critically and adjust from there. Too muddy? Cut the lows. Can’t hear your notes? Boost the mids. Can’t hear your attack? Boost highs and/or mids. Solve the problem at hand, and use your ears, don’t let the knobs on the amp or bass dictate what you think your tone “should be.” It’s often eye opening to hear how much finger/string noise and attack there is in rock bass, listen to Helter Skelter isolated bass to see what I mean. Sounds NOTHING like it seems in the mix! Then again you have Motown bass with almost no finger/string noise at all, but they eq’d everything else out of the way to make that possible, not to mention impeccable technique and note crafting by the players, mainly James Jameson and Bob Babbitt. Hint: almost all pop bass, Motown included, has a little bit of overdrive/distortion on it, which helps cut through the mix and even out the volume, it’s a natural compression. Try boosting gain and lowering the master (if your amp allows) and see if that doesn’t bring your presence up. All the best sounding 80’s rockers, Sheehan, Duff, etc have some overdrive in their sound.

It is a very nice bassguitar. Only the electra series (but it is the same hardware as california model... california just a bit better build quality).
