Be worth doing the same route again 30 years on.
West Leeds high I went there I was 14 when this was filmed man how time flys
When it 1st started the Chinese on lift, hong vang with beautiful
The dreaded school dentist was on Theaker Lane off Town Street, the baby clinic was the building just up the road where I remember seeing a big rocking horse but I was never allowed to play on it.
Some memories of this area from the 60s. I went to Whingate Road School from 62 to 68. There used to be a shop called Oxleys on Whingate Junction and shops along the right of Whingate Road, going past the school. Ken's butchers, a chemist, green grocers, a little haberdashery shop and a chemist were there amongst others. We used to buy uncut bread from the bakers across the road. I remember being sent to one of the shops on a Sunday morning for a packet of salt but was told the regulations stated that I had to buy something else too. They weren't allowed to sell salt on it's own on a Sunday! We used to walk down Carcrofts to Town Street.
England and Leeds of Old, when we we knew who we were. When we was homogeneous.🏴🇬🇧
i go here today
My olde high school, there a year then changed from Harrington to Farnley park, wow took me back, good ole bertie bonner britains greatest honour
Love this video mine nanna life's close to whingate road.
Happiest day of my life when the headmaster, Gillanders, told me to go and never come back. 5 years at that shithole, hated every last minute
Lived here for a while in armley , it's got a bad rep but very unfair , I liked living there
You can tell the lady car driver isn't from Leeds, from how she mispronounces Wortley. When they pass the single-decker bus before turning left down Armley Town Street & Graham, the passenger, enquires about it's destination. A Scottish motorist once asked me for directions, at the bottom of Tong Road. I couldn't help him until I realised he was mispronouncing the word Wortley.
At 6.51 on the video, going up Tong Road, my Blue Mini parked up outside my old computer shop, Arcadia, excellent spot for a shop, lots of passing traffic, had many many good years of business.
Ah yes, I think I might have got my PS1 chipped there, back in the day? Lol
@@kellie5476 yes we used to do lots of console mods, the PS1 mods where very popular
I go to famley academy now and it look so diffent now
Same
All full of polish, Lithuania, Bulgarians now, won't ever be the same
Armley is rough and its caused by smackheads and people on dole with no goals with their lives. With poor manners, not educated. I would't blame them foreigners Si, majority of them are hardworkers.
Meal of the day!!!
Great little piece, I notice bike Sheds have gone, needs to be said it was a good building Rip Mr Hemmingway Best teacher who should have been Head Master. Mr Taylor also a good teacher.
Theres no need for the inverted commas on feast Thats its proper name in Leeds
That's correct, it sells food etc so a feast it is. A fair without a Gala if invited to one.
I was there in 1968
SYMPHONY MUSIC
Oh my god. I can barely recognize it! Everyone commenting from 8 years ago talking about how different it was, but now it's 2019 and it's so unbelievably different. I'm actually in shock.
Garry Mason All boys school when i attended 1967 onwards, The sports teacher Mr Hilldrick? was always keen to administer the slipper, he used to wait until we had got changed into just gym shorts. Mr Broadbent would give the whole class the slipper or cane if just one pupil stepped out of line. The Geography teacher "Ranter Robinson", was evil he used to lose his rag and throw the heavy wooden chalk wipe at offending pupils. there were lots of after school fights and school against school fights. There was a long haired hippy art teacher that used to confiscate your cigs, take a couple out and then give you them back. Daft as it sounds i really enjoyed being a pupil at Cow Close, I was very sad to leave.
I was a pupil there from 1967, your video has brought back a lot of mainly happy memories, apart from getting the slipper and the cane of course.
Very well done : a good historical chronicle.
Cheers, it is appreciated.
Thanks again.
Thanks for posting, good video, nice to see Leeds again albeit changed from how I remember it. Have you put any more of these videos online, I think RUclips may be playing up again.
Ian Fielding Was there from 64 till 69 when it was cow close or (cow clap) as we called it, and have to disagree with Ed Annan about you only went their if you didn't want to succeed, Me personally up to leaving there at 15 -, went on to owning and running 3 printing companies in Scarborough and a printing company in Jersey, due to retire next year, so don't blame it on the schools or the teachers, it's the person themselves who have that capability to change themselves, many thanks for the video.
went to that school early 80s remember sitting on the boat with lads.
And wow there is actually white faces on armley town ST its now immigrant central.
LOL that bush to the right at .52 seconds me and my friends when about 10-12 used to get drunk and jump in his hedges used to piss him right off it was destroyed in the end lol.
was there 1979-1982.....feels like a million years ago but this video makes it feel like a month ago,....thanks.
do you have any videos of the "Great Australian Clock" chiming?
Cost me 11months and $1340 on beer plus parts
the place is fucking filthy today
2 years on and it is absolutely disgusting!!
Although, when I was at Ryecroft, we used to go up to Harrington/Cow Close to do P.E. on a Friday morning. I mainly remember the big changing rooms where we always had to have a shower and the teachers would stand at either end to watch us through. Bet they don't that anymore!
I never went to this school. I remember it most as Harrington High. It was a rough school that you didn't go to if you wanted to succeed but we always used to walk up there, through the ginnel, past Old Farnley primary school (my old school), across the fields and to the tennis courts, where we hoped we wouldn't have to wait (or too long) to get a court to play.
Great trip down memory lane-wish you'd got in West Leeds Boys High where I went in the 70's----Thanks.
An immature male displaying, a couple more years and he will have his 'big boy' tail feathers. The sounds he is making, the 'lazer gun' followed by the 'blick blick' sound is their own sound.
I remember kids putting empty crisp packets in a hatch in the side of the big concrete chimney. They would then magically appear out of the top and float back down.
Brings back memories. Lived in this area back in the early 1980s.
Irish Joe McAvoy , the Bodybuilder/Weighttrainer from Jim's Gym in Woodhouse, lived here, He was well known and respected.
Name of song??
Wow I live near town street and I never seen it like that, probably because I was born in 98
a list of shops on armley town st charity shop/polish shop/betting shop/we buy gold/insurance claims. the list could go on but i started weeping-this suburb is just a template for how the rest of the country will end up- emigrate if you can afford it
two years after my first comment and you guessed it its even worse- we now have the joys of romanians walking the streets more pubs shut and town st looks like a recruitment centre for jeremy kyle thank christ i'm moving next year
lol..he sounds like Chewy
served my apprentiship at Blakeys boot protectors...anyone fill me in what happened to the place ??
it's probably a fucking mosque now mate
It sounds like gun shots and reloading to me. Poor birds.
Pretty cool to see how the lamp posts were back then... the same as 2009, aside from Wesley Road!
