Phil you are a great man and I am so glad I met you and was able to talk to you and see your "Banging Rocks" workshop at Salisbury, in October 2015 - I am interested in knowing more about the book you have put together. Thank you!

What Mr. Harding and the team contributed is that they made history interesting. I have always loved it but some find it boring. Time team took this "dusty subject" and put flesh on it. They made it about the human race and how people lived and survived in times past. Three dimensional history is what they presented to the general populace and showed how it exists just beneath your feet. Much of it in your back yard and Places you go everyday. I'm an American but "Uncle Phil" and the rest of the old time team, in my opinion, are a treasure to all nations.

Phil had the foresight to get involved with a project like Time Team, that had only 3 days excavation, though I'm sure there was lots of previous and successive research. A stuffier archaeologist would have said no chance, it's beneath me and defiles the profession. Phil saw, probably because of Mick's involvement, that TV could open doors to sites that would have taken decades to access, if ever.

Oh my. This was great.---I retired as a nurse after 52 1/2 years, falling in love with the notion of being a nurse after looking at a black-n-white picture book of student nurses likely taken in the 1940s. I was 12 at the time. From that time, it's all I wanted to be. After many highs and lows, and changes in job description, I never had any regrets.---I love that Phil still has a place in my heart.

My favourite Phil Time Team moment is when Tony Robinson comes up to the excavation and says, and I'm paraphrasing, Phil, I'm looking at an empty hole and Phil immediately replies Tony, Tony, Tony, you couldn't be more wrong. See that strata there? See that? That's charcoal Tony, charcoal and that tells us that there was human habitation. Now we don't know if they were Iron Age, Bronze Age or Neolithic but if I could find a shard of pottery I could date this site Tony and we'd have another piece to the puzzle.

I wonder how tough it will be to confront the increasing heat out in the field of archeology? My guess is that will become far less safe and far riskier even though there was probably always some risk I have long been a fan of Phil and his approach to this field.

    1) "never been bothered by money", exactly!! everything pays, and more often than not the better you get at it the more it pays, so don't worry about that, what you do to earn matters more. 2) that first find as a kid bit, i remember digging in the soil at the bottom of my grandparents council house garden with a trowel, there was a marble or two and maybe a couple of plastic toy soldiers that 'died' so i buried them some time previous, but i remember finding sherds of pottery and thinking nothing of it, just bits of broken plant pots or something, but now in middle age i sometimes wonder if it was something more.

I adored Phil on Time Team. I have watched it for years and still watch the re-runs. I’m also watching the new Time Team as a member on Patreon. One of the funniest things Phil ever said on TT, when asked by Tony Robinson if he had found anything in his trench, he replied “not a sausage Tony.” I nearly died laughing and I’m laughing as I write. What a great character he is. What would we do without archaeologists? I wish you well Phil.

Phil became my favorite archaeologists from the first Time team episode I ever watched a long time ago. There isn't that many people who are really good at something without it going to their head but Phil is exactly the type of person I wouldn't mind having a pint with. Competent but also very entertaining,. I was missing him a lot when I watched that recent Sutton Hoo dig, it was heart warming to see John and Stewart working together again but I really missed having Phil telling Tony to stay out of his trench. Thanks for all your years of service to archaeology, Phil, both on and off camera.

Why are Phil's responses so overly edited? Every other sentence seems to be stitched together with another sentence in interest of shortening his response to the point it's hard to tell if these answers are what Phil intended or just what this content creator wanted Phil to say.
