In Surinamese culture an odo is a proverb or statement often with double meaning. Odo's often refer to specific events, containing either words of advise or sneers to challenge opponents.
The odo's recited in this video were written by Elfriede Baarn Dijksteel aka Jenge. Jenge was a strong supporter of embracing and documenting traditional Afro-Surinamese culture and wrote several of her own odo's
