I lived 20 years in Victoria and I left 3 years ago. Never in a million years would I live there again. Beautiful town, incredibly expensive, rents and food are out of control and growing, good luck forming community here, people are very superficially polite. The city spends millions of dollars on road work and bike lanes while the addicted homeless situation is completely out of control. Why does an island with almost 900 k population has no long term public addiction center? Disgusting. Otherwise it’s a nice place

I just want to say I like Victoria and I was born in Edmonton Alberta and when I moved here with my family back in 1982 the city and including downtown was safer than it is now. I think now people need to think about coming here as I find Victoria not cheap for people to rent or buy. I would move back to Alberta if I could

Hi! My Con 6 is the traffic.with the increase of vehicles and all the new bike lanes traffic is being impeded greatly. Driving to western communities or Sooke especially at rush hours takes a long time. Colwood and Langford are no longer 20 minutes away. Driving over the Malahat to Duncan, Chemainus and Nanaimo can take an hour just to get over the mountain. After moving here 30 years ago we are seriously moving because of the traffic.

Hi Ilana, great first video! Where would you say it is best to buy? I am torn between core Victoria and one of the west shore communities? I like the walkability of Victoria proper and I'm sure I'll miss that in one of the west shore communities, but I am also worried about the increasing crime rate in the city. Or should I consider the peninsula? Any advice would be helpful :)

Hi Val, thank you! Core Victoria does not need to be Downtown Victoria - there are plenty great neighbourhoods within walking/biking distance from the inner harbour and downtown activities, like James Bay, Fairfield and Fernwood to name a few. Your choice of neighbourhood should fit your lifestyle!
