1 John 4:1 and Matthew 7:15-20 ENCOURAGE us to question what we believe, what we think, and what we are told! Questioning does not weaken faith; so often (and certainly for me) it leads to a MORE solid faith. I've flipped my faith over, turned it inside out, deconstructed it, and - hand-in-hand with God - I have reconstructed it with the glue of the Holy Spirit. I have found that the willingness to, like Pastor Liz said, see God in "non-God" places have shown me that God is in fact everywhere! Jesus didn't look for his followers in the church alone, so we cannot seek him (or God) only there, or we will miss the greatest of his works in this world.

not trying to be mean but are you saying that the bible is just a guidebook or do you not believe that its the word of God? the bible says certain practices is sin. do you not believe that what the bible which i believe is the written word of God calls sin is sin or do you just accept those practices as love and not sin. just want to know what your belief is now. thank you.

So, I've been thinking of this since Sunday, and I know this wasn't the point of the story (in this context), but I can't get past how Jesus told the man from Gadarenes to go and tell "how great things the LORD hath done for thee.." and then he went and told people "how great things JESUS had done for him" (KJV). That wasn't the assignment!! lol Just struck me as another example of people being distracted from the work of God by the man (Jesus) through which that work was channeled...and also a reminder in the importance of understanding the assignment when it comes to being obedient to God's Will. Loved this use of this story in this context as well, and sermon overall! Certainly not trying to detract from the message delivered here. Just a thought I couldn't shake, and thought I'd share. :-)
