Buckwheat is one of the staple crops in baltistan and this crop is cultivated commonly in few Indian villages in ladakh such as in turtuk, tyakshi, thang, chulungkha and bogdang. Except bogdang, all other villages were an integral part of Pakistan but were captured by the Indian Army in the year 1971.
