Have you considered that a mario cart is much simpler to design in nature, and theyve released 8 already. Meanwhile you got 5 fully fledged open world games with large main storylines.

Tbf, excluding VC there always was only one Mario Kart per console, so once they decided to part 8 to the Switch it was not hard to predict that we will not get a new game for years.

The reason ita taking ao long is because they saw how much people were exited for it and they didnt want to under deliver so they completely remade the engine and are now actually working on the game itself
