MIND BLOWING Auroras May 10-11, 2024, NE Oklahoma - with ISS pass through
This is fabulous!!!! I rehab native songbirds and raptors in Tulsa and can help you with identifying some of these kids. Where was this taken? Please, please, please continue with this trail cam-I can't get over the number of species in this creek! Okay, I'll try to help identify in the order they appear, although some of our winter sparrows are still perplexing to me too. At 1:44-Female Painted Bunting, I think (with the green back) At 4:29-Cardinal and Cowbird At 4:47-Juvenile Cowbird with Cardinal At 4:52-Song sparrow I think-definitely a native sparrow At 9:07-yes, Yellow Warblers! Gorgeous! What an invaluable resource this is for our native birds-thank you so, so much for posting.
Oh my, I'm SO GLAD someone with your background is appreciative of this! I hope you have found the older compilations, there is an entire play list of them, going back about two years. Here is the link - ruclips.net/p/PLZvHnJFhc_cpEN2ayJu8kxd0TnN8WE0Ez I'm sure I have plenty of birds misidentified, too, sometimes I just can't see them well, and I still have to look up many in my book or online. Sadly it seems I didn't get near the number of species at migration that I did last year :( I'm thrilled every time I catch something new, of course. Thank you so much for the IDs - I usually try to figure them out, but if I feel that my guess is likely to be wrong, I'd rather leave it as a question mark. The location is SW Creek county, so not exactly in Tulsa, but not that far away :) And you'll find LOTS more species in the older videos, I think you'll like it :) :)
@@focused-on-nature I didn't seen any misidentifications at all except for the crow/grackle mix up!! You're good!!! The Yellow Billed Cuckoo up on the log-loved that behavior-I've never seen them act like that. SW Creek County, huh? Wow. Just total wow! Is it a rural area? I'm so curious, because there's such a great variety of species! I'll definitely check out your other videos, and again, thanks for posting this. I need to see some beauty more than usual these days. :( Do you mind if I share with other bird loving friends? Leslie
@@snlself The Yellow-billed Cuckoos are such cool birds, a couple of years ago I was chasing them around the property to catch them with my better camera, and they were always hiding in the treetops :D Then I'd see one fly across the yard/ pasture and I could never catch them in flight. Love 'em! :D They always crack me up when they're at the creek, they're so weird :D You'll find more of them in the videos that are from the hottest part of the summer(s). Don't forget to check out the nighttime compilation of Chuck-Will's-Widows, I'm not sure it's on that bird playlist. I noticed there were some others missing from that list, and I need to check it sometime so everything that belongs there gets put on that list. And yes, it's rural, just cow pastures around us. Also yes, please, share with everyone who you think might enjoy seeing the videos - not enough people remember to appreciate the gift that is nature and wildlife around us! Thank you for watching! :)
@@focused-on-nature oh man, I SAW your Chuck-Will's video!!!!! It's amazing!!! They're almost impossible to get on camera, for obvious reasons, and yours is a beautiful example of how they hunt/function at night. And I agree; it was a juvenile with parent!!! Squeeeee!!! I adore all of the nightjars, but man, having them in rehab is super challenging. Getting an adult to eat is almost impossible; they're so hard-wired to catch insects on the wing (same as Chimney Swifts) that they absolutely will NOT grab moving insects in a bowl placed right in front of them. Nor will the babies I've had. :( So it's all about force feeding, which is super stressful for not only the bird, but for the rehabber. I had a lot of fun going through your videos last night, and will keep watching them-your Winter footage is so, so beautiful. All of them are just really well done. How many cameras do you typically put up? I'm SO glad you're doing this; the only way we might stand a chance of protecting the wild things is to educate people about how very lucky we are to live among such beauty.
Oh, on the Yellow Billed Cuckoos-are they not a fabulous species?????? I've had a lot of babies in rehab, and omg, the sounds they make when begging for food!!! Deep in their throat, wings fluttering....just fabulous!!! But something I've noticed about Cuckoos over the years; they seem especially prone to hitting windows and low fencing. :( I mean, I get in a lot of window strike birds...but more Cuckoos than any other. Not sure if it's a vision thing, or if they weigh so much they can't divert in time to avoid, or what. But oh, they're such gorgeous birds. The inside of their mouths has little suction cups to help them hold on to caterpillars! Soooo cool.
Awesome video! We could see it in central Alabama. Got ok photos with my cellphone camera, but the video didn’t show well. Thanks for letting me know.
I'm glad you got to see it! Videos are hard even with a good camera with which you can set the shutterspeed lower than the framerate. I guess it could work up north with very bright Auroras, but it's a different story here at lower latitudes, it's just so faint.
Splendid! Both aurora display and the music! Thank you.
Thank You! for watching! :)
How often does this occur in oklahoma?
I'm sure it varies, but I've seen it three times now in 2024, and I've caught it more times than that because even if you can't see it, a camera can :) So I guess the answer is - more often than you'd expect :D The key to it is awareness and checking the possibilities often enough to know what's going on :)
@@focused-on-nature Seeing the Aurora Borealis in Oklahoma is considered very rare, only occurring during strong geomagnetic storms, which happen infrequently, meaning you might only see it a few times in a decade, if at all; most Oklahomans would likely never see it in their lifetime due to its southern location relative to the aurora's typical viewing area.
@@larryskylar3394 That's correct. The display in May was fabulous here, and I expect to see it again tonight, apart from seeing it already once this week. The one Monday night was very faint, but still visible if you knew to look for it. I do have big hopes for tonight.
Those coyotes & meteors going by plus the lights made for a great combo
Most of the flying stuff were airplanes and satellites, though :D I think I saw two meteors, but I didn't check if they were caught in the time lapse :)
She stayed up all night to get that! 🥰
Need to pet the kitty 😅!! Danger kitty
Haha, they're so pretty!! :D
Hawk looks so much bigger compared to other birds !!!
Yeah, hawks are pretty big, and some hawks are even bigger than others! :D
Thanks for uploading these videos, they are so relaxing to watch
You're most welcome :)
Wow so many birds !! 😮. How do you know what is the species or name of the bird?
Most are local birds that you see all the time, so those are easy. During migration, though, we sometimes get birds that only travel through, and I have to look up what they are. It's fun to see new ones and learn about them :)
Awesome!
Heads up! There is a G4 Solar storm watch in effect, everyone might get to see them! Go here for info - www.swpc.noaa.gov/news/g4-severe-storm-watch-10-11-october

Beautiful!
Thank you! :)
Sweet! I live right outside of downtown OKC now. Moved from Spencer. God I miss stars.
I love seeing the recurring families! The squirrel stampede was hilarious. That coyote has been hurt since at least June, but she(?) seems to be thriving!
I'm glad you enjoyed it! :) The coyote is coming up on four years since she got hurt - but she has family that help her :) So she's OK. Right now she comes to get persimmons from my back yard at night. The apple crop was horribly bad this year, so no apples for her :(
@@focused-on-nature That is amazing! Thank you so much for sharing :) Hopefully there will be apples next year!
@@HareMoose I hope so, too! The wildlife sure love to have them! :)
A wide variety of wildlife. Thank you.
Thanks for watching! :)
Squirrell sounding off at Bobcat and Jay birds earlier.
Yes! That's why I love the sounds because you can tell the other animals are warning everyone about the predator! Same thing in the Barred owl video where the Blue Jays get deafeningly loud! I had to adjust the volume a bunch on that one.
Ever captured any sprites?
No, I haven't :( The cloud would need to be pretty far away where you could see the top of it, and then catching the moment it happens - a time lapse might miss it because there are pauses, and if it's faint it may not show on long exposure. Would be the coolest thing ever, though!
stunning!
Thanks, Wendy :)
Absolutely stunning
Thank you! :)
Also I noticed the coyotes don’t seem to be disturbed by your camera but in other videos they always seem startled.
Most of the time the coyotes don't mind the cameras, but I know they can see the red glow at night (or whatever color it is to them) - but sometimes it startles them. The cameras also make a faint click when they start recording, and I'm sure they can hear it. In general, coyotes are much more wary of their surroundings than all the other animals, and react to odd things more.
Sometimes there’s a strip along the bottom with time, date , temp info. Just saying that’s one of my favorite parts of watching these videos. I like to think what I was doing at that time. Thank you!!!
Yeah, I have the time/ temp strip turned off because I don't like it. Sorry about that :(
The way the racoon walks off at 0:14 😂😂
Aww still is a grown up kitten !!
She's awesome :) The other day I gave her the ring that's on the milk jug bottle cap, and she went nuts with it! It was like you installed a turbo charger in her :D
Didnt know bro was chill like that
I've been hearing them after dark almost every day now after getting that video, it makes me happy that they're around. Such cool birds! :)
Cool footage. i dont get roadrunners in southern illinois so its nice to see them. Pretty good picture quality on cameras. need to upgrade mine. keep up the good work 👍👍👍
Thank you!! And yes, Roadrunners are pretty cool birds - brutal, but still cool. Thank you for watching :)
How far outside of town are you guys? I don’t hear any noise pollution in the video, seems really peaceful. They are all gorgeous!
We're pretty rural, nothing big close by, except the interstate is a few miles away and when the wind is just right you can hear it pretty loud. Outside of that, airplanes, trains and lawnmowers make the most part of human created noise. Thanks for watching! :)
I wonder who he's calling?
I hope we find out sometime soon! :)
That's a big beautiful bobcat!
She's a beauty isn't she? :)

Yes, and it's beautiful in so many ways! :)
I loved watching the owl!
Isn't he adorable? :D
Neat! Thanks for sharing this.
Thank you for watching :)
Beautiful
Absolutely beautiful wildlife does this creek or stream have fish in it? Thank you
There are some tiny fish here and there - it's so shallow for most part that there's not even enough water for a tiny fish to swim through. The "deepest" spots might be 10-12 inches, and they're all very small areas. There's a waterfall (water only goes over it after it rains hard enough, otherwise it's just a dry rock), and beneath it is a deeper pool, maybe 3ish feet, not quite sure, but it has some bigger fish. When it rains hard the smaller ones get washed down to the small "deep" spots.
Wow!
The most unexpected catch, but very welcome at the same time! :D
@@focused-on-nature no kidding! People in Texas were seeing it, too.

Do you know if the injured coyote is better? Seems like his injury is taking a while to heal. Is ir Maybe a couple weeks he has been limping? If so must be broken. It looks like is partner is helping out.
The injured coyote (the one hopping on three legs) was caught in a trap three years ago, and she lost the toes / paw off that foot. One of my trailcams caught her hopping by with the trap on her foot, dragging the chains behind. Then a couple of days later she came by without the trap, now just without her paw :( She's been doing OK since then, though, with the help of her companions.
