Skunks smell terrible to humans, but imagine what it must be like for a dog to be sprayed in the face. They have 300 million olfactory receptors in their noses, compared to about 6 million in us. Not only that, but I'm pretty sure this dog got some skunk juice in his eyes and mouth.

Could have been a snake bite, but skunk juice is pretty strong and can have an allergic effect on some dogs, where they can go into anaphylaxis.

I know this is an old video but wow, I had no idea that this could happen!! I’m an Aussie so we obviously don’t have skunks, when you turned around and he collapsed, my heart broke, I was so relieved when he regained consciousness, poor Ranger must have been terrified as well.

Skunks are no joke, I knew of a police dog back in the 70's that inhaled skunk spray while persuing a fugitive. It was a big healthy German Shepherd. The fumes made lung collapse and he died before getting to vet. I'm glad you're dog is ok.
