Advanced Heroquest Gaming Aids: The Jabberwock
This is so well done. You deserve far more views!
Thank you! We love Halloween so wanted to do something appropriate- kinda a yearly tradition. And all the ghostly things are actually based on real-life ghostly encounters. Be sure to watch part 2 (king laugh comets) to see how it all ties together
So a Greater Jabberwock, a Verminlord and an Amethyst Wizard, none of whom know each other, walk into a quest room. The Wizard knows how to use the spells Alter Allegiance, Soul Share, Soul Steel, Fortitude, Fire of Judgement, and Spasm. He can only cast each spell once. What do you think happens?
Blooming heck! Well, I’d go alter allegiance on the Jabberwock (easier for it to fail its INT test), make it fight the vermin lord. If by the next turn it’s still alive the soul share and the wizard attacks too. Next turn, hopefully the vermin lord is near death so then spasm on the verminlord. If it’s still alive then next turn fire of judgement on the verminlord. If not spend the next two turns cowering behind the Jabberwock buffing it with soul steel and/or fortitude. If the verminlord dies then he’s good and the Jabberwock runs away. If not, the wizard runs away. Or something like that???!?
@@jugsjapansunitedgamingsociety With that order of events, as soon as he uses Soul Share, he takes the Jabberwocks intelligence upon him (and suffers from the stupidity special rule?). If he's a dwarf, he likely fails any spell attempts from then on. With the intelligence of a Jabberwock, he might forget which creature to buff. The invulnerable Verminlord is probably not threatened by the Jabberwocks poisoned fangs and claws unless they are magical, and the stupefied wizard might forget to run away from the victorious Verminlord, relentlessly and stupidly attacking it like the Jabberwock whose soul he shared.
Hahaha! Well, I guess the best option is to…. Alter allegiance, put the Jabberwock between him and verminlord and then wizard should probably RUN AWAY! Wizard’s have no place fighting gigantic monsters alone without the rest of their party and their magical weapons and only a paltry number of spell components.
@@jugsjapansunitedgamingsociety That is probably correct. He could try Spasm and Fire of Judgement before escaping, but he should probably only use Soul Share as a last resort, such as if he were cornered.
Fire away and flee! The wizard in our party during our campaign has done that quite a bit 😂
Love this channel!
Thank you ever so much! Greatly appreciated!
When a Bloodthirster pops up leg it the opposite direction 😂
A general rule for life I’d say, no matter which timeline or universe you’re in 😂
I will now forever see the name Milkthirster when I look at the rulebook in future xD
@@russellede haha! Looking at the original, he’s just a cute little baby by comparison 🥺 to the version derived from the Realm of Chaos rules
I also love how your new Greater Daemon rules actually make them feel like final floor bosses for high level parties!
@russellede definitely for use against veteran heroes - these’ll make quite the challenge. The “milk-thirster” is a road bump 😉
Very fun video! Subbed
Thank you! This is the latest in a line of these rules dives. Currently working on Bloodthirsters which will be coming soon
Why does it have stats for Ranged Combat if it does not have any damge dice or max range for ranged attacks?
Merely for completeness. It has no ranged weapon. BUT for GMs who want to go beyond the rules into more traditional role playing and want to allow their heroes/NPCs/monsters to do non-standard things, like picking something nearby up and throwing it (something I could see myself doing depending on the players) I included the dice rolls. In this scenario damage dice would depend on the object and the GMs discretion
Can you give us the conversion method for the PV of the monsters. I'm planing to use blue and pink horrors in my next expedition for my players? Thanks
Gosh! That was a nightmare to work out. Basically going through every single monster in both systems (AHQ and WFB) and constructing brackets for each one. Some are pretty wide. The lowest bracket is a 1/2 point and the highest 20. At higher points levels the data simply isn’t there but from what I can extrapolate out, a 140pt pink horror (their cost in the Realm of Chaos book) is a 12/13 point creature in AHQ. I’d probably err on them being 12 points
Great job as aways! In the Terror in the Dark expansion they changed the Flaming skull of Terror spell (they have the fearsome monster capability yet) for the Fireball spell (page 75)
Ah well spotted. Makes sense, it’s a better spell. I’ll dig out my copy of that. Thank you
Love your work
Thank you so much. These lore videos are definitely a labour of love for us
I always felt the Bloodthirster stats were so relatively low because they were using it more in it's Heroquest Gargoyle incarnation rather than the Realm of Chaos Greater Daemon
@@russellede I had the same feeling actually, which is why I feel the Bloodthirster stats too deserve a good looking at 😉🤫
I've had an AHQ minature project going on for a while now. I have the loard of change model featured in it, almost all the skaven and a broken troll do far. Ive played it solo a few times. I'm more of a 40k person, but have much love for this system. ❤️. The modern skaven deathmaster mini would fit in to it very well I always thought.
@nickellingham1764 sounds like you’ve the start of a fine collection. Love each and every Lord of Change model GW have done. We’ve still got a lot of the original Skaven from this game to do. Definitely agree it’s the system that is its strength. It’s such a robust system
I agree the Bloodthirster stats are low. I remember the fear when a Bloodthirster was in play in 4th edition warhammer fantasy battle. 10 attacks most of the time hitting on 2s, and a high armour save. 😂.
@Mark-nh2hs brutal!!! Hahaha! That what we need in the dungeon against those stubborn parties of tooled up heroes 🤣
My favourite of the series so far, Sven's revenge had me gripped. Well done. I look forward to seeing more. Thanks.
Thank you! It was a satisfying end to his arc. We were truly blessed by the dice gods
Fantastic storytelling. This has been a great campaign. I've got to ask: Where do you get your awesome scenery from? Some of it seems scratch built. Thanks for all you do for this absolute gem of a game.
Thank you! Yes, a lot is scratchbuilt. I use some WW2 1:35 and 1:48 scale bits to make a lot of them. A lot of the tables are made from old GW bases. Some other bits are bought from GW, both old and new, and some of them are from Mantic also. They’ve some cool pieces in their various terrain crates.
An excellent ending dude. I often wonder when you post about working on narration-how long could it take? But you put so much effort into the story and all the little details in between battles and exploration that it's no wonder you take your time. Perfectly done dude!
Thanks! I think because I’m juggling so many things, off these will take a back seat though. I do have quite the busy private and work life too. But they do, in and of themselves, take time to make sure everything lines up; getting the words to accurately reflect what’s going on, assigning reasons for why a random dice roll caused a character to act in such a way, making sure the footage I take is enough during a game but not biting off too much to chew, as that becomes a disincentive to work on it, if the amount of work becomes intimidating I mean. They get done. Just take longer than they should. If only did these and not the podcast or anything else they’d be more frequent maybe, but even organising and planning the games themselves is quite time consuming plus painting and making the models, furniture and tiles. Anyway, basically these are quite the labour of love is what it boils down to. Thanks ever so much for so avidly watching and taking the time to comment. It definitely incentivises us to continue
Great stuff ! - thanks for the upload 👍
Thanks for the board sections. Mentioned you in the video description 👍👍
Damn love these adventures - my heart sank at one point but what a comeback. Great Batrap cannot wait to see the next instalment 👍👌
Thank you so much. It was such a tense game, so many ups and downs, but the dice gods favoured the heroes in the end. Almost felt cinematic at points. It was a very satisfying climax to the quest but much further to go yet.
Glad to see this back dude. Gonna start from the beginning again I think 😊
It’s been quite the quest. So happy to get this episode out! Thanks
Good stuff as usual 👍 Request: Perhaps an upload of your campaigns and story line ?
Oh! Actually our current campaign is not codified per se. It just kinda grows organically from game to game. We mostly use the random dungeon generation rules too for each game. But when we do have something like that, well presented and written up, it’ll definitely get added to this playlist. Actually got my creative juices flowing on this now… 🤔
am I the only who thinks the Verminlords need a hat?
Hahaha! I think you may be right , they’d be the most dapper daemon of them all if only they had a hat 😉
@@jugsjapansunitedgamingsociety haha :D and the most classy Daemons :)

love your voice, very cool idea

@@Moseth7606 haha! To be true! I am rather partial to ‘The Gruffalo’, from which this quote is an homage, as are my sons 😉
Excellent. Looking forward to this!
Well, it’s just a prelude. Hopefully it was not too disappointing. The batrep is well on its way and the game was suitably climactic. Can’t believe some of the dice rolls!!! Thanks for your patience
Looking forward to this but back to the tavern keepers history 😊 keep up your great work dude
Thank you! This is just a narrative prelude to the next batrep. That’ll be along soon-ish
@@jugsjapansunitedgamingsociety buzz!! Can't wait dude

Aye! We were all shocked by the sudden death of our son’s friend. May he rest in peace!
Awesome ending dude 😅
Haha! It’s an old silly folk song that for some reason made me think of Essen. Definitely our silliest end to an episode to date 🤣
Amazing stuff. Good info, good images, no AI slop that's ruined some channels. Love it
Thank you so much. Making these weekly little radio dramas has become a little hobby unto itself for us as well as painting minis and playing games. The style of them is based on the audio dramas of the late seventies and eighties. We find that if you kinda present all the facts as stories they’re easier to digest and remember. 🍻
@@jugsjapansunitedgamingsociety I love it. I'm going to try and share this with a few friends
@BPOOHEAD189 oh! By all means! The more the merrier as they say! This is just a fun little hobby for us of course, thus we value quality listeners over quantity. That said, we are kinda like marmite/Vegemite, some love it, many don’t care for it. Either is fine by us. Thank YOU for your support though!
Great stuff!
Thank you so much
Nice choice in music dude 👍
Crammed in some of my favourite pieces on this one for sure 😉🍻
Love the call back to sven getting kidnapped 😅 top job sir tying things in
Haha! Heinrich! Yes, his player missed that first game and so I had come up with a reason. His player was actually hungover which is why he missed it so I just used that and it suddenly became a big thing in terms of plot and character: truly adversity is the mother of invention!
