Great piece David !! I grew up with Van Halen coursing through my veins at high volume !!! I always wanted to hear an album with Eddie just noodling or improvising over some grooves ….it never came- Joe Satriani and Steve Vai filled that niche . I honestly think DLR a was a more creative , musical contributor now than EVH . The fabulous cover of “Dancing in the Streets “ I’m sure was proposed by DLR , the “Hot For Teacher “ …….just fun with music …..who employed and groomed Steve Vai ? ( propelling him to the top instead of being an odd Zappa band member ) , the “Sensible Shoes” and Steve Hunter ?? the super cool cover of “Coconut Grove “ and the ripping Sinatra cover of “That’s Life “ are all more creative and more ( to me ) listenable than a lot of what EVH did after the “breakup “ . Time will sift it all out !! I know what I like and I know DLR knows and loves a ripping guitar as much as the next guy ✌️🙏🌏👏🎼🎸❤️‍🔥💥🎶🎶🎶💫🙀
