I love this for yrs now. So hypnotic. Great job.
"The soprano, by being this small instrument, I found that playing the lowest note on it was like playing ... one of the middle notes in the tenor ... I found that I would play all over this instrument ... And on tenor, I hadn't always played all over it, because I was playing certain ideas which would just run in certain ranges ... By playing on the soprano and becoming accustomed to playing from that low B-flat on up, it soon got so when I went to tenor, I found myself doing the same thing ... And this caused ... the willingness to change and just try to play... as much of the instrument as possible." - John Coltrane

Amazing like nature itself
This is raag charukeshi, not bhairav
Coltrane made an effort to get the oboe sound, and made that clear. And the audio quality (like the video quality) is poor, so we're missing out on a lot. But it's wonderful to have this video--better than nothing. As a Coltrane fan, it's hard to come to this recording without filling in his sound from memory. For soprano, one can go toward oboe sound (Coltrane) or clarinet sound (Bechet), or maybe split the difference. I prefer more of a clarinet sound, but Coltrane is amazing, so I'll take the oboe sound. There are also soprano sounds that are clearly those of individual players, and maybe hard to classify otherwise: Cannonball Adderley (alto), Zoot Sims (tenor), Wayne Shorter (tenor), James Carter (any sax known to humankind). My hearing's not what it used to be, but the audio is noisy and SUPER trebly. If we were listening to Coltrane live and up close I think he'd sound astounding. Also, I heard or read years ago that at one point Coltrane would jam his mouthpiece as far onto the cork of the sax's neck as he could. He liked the tone better, and reasoned that he was taking advantage of the more purely conical portion of the horn. The neck has closer to a straighter cylindrical taper near the mouthpiece end. After since Coltrane's tenor then played so sharp, the band tuned up to him. Or he just played sharp regardless, I forget which. Whether true or not, it's a very Coltrane story.

Human life in its purest form a people that were truly at one with nature
I urge caution and respect. You may have the permission of a few members of s tradition to record their activities, but these traditions keep their ways alive and distinct from influence through keeping them secret. Even anthropologists have been forbidden from recording anything for a very long time. So you may have the permission of a few members of a community, but those few members do not really have the authority or right to share all of this with the outside world and open it up to influence. Native American traditions don't all really pertain to "shamanism" in the way a white observer might know it. And that should not be used to undermine anyone, because each tradition has it's own importance for the people.
It must've been very painful to develop those calluses at the base of the fingernails.
RIP McCoy Tyner, there are four angels playing for the creator tonight.

If all world governments dedicated themselves, to the arts including music, dance, sculpture, painting, and so on w`d have a better world, since people who play, sing, dance, and paint, are happier and more productive, which would lead to general sustained, and sustainable development BLESSING
what are you talking about? Most people can choose to play music and don't. What do you want "the government" to do, force people to play?
@@iRaps1 You have not understood anything, read again, with more care, I said, that: governments give more support to the arts, not that they force people to exercise their art, but that they give absolute support to those who do!
@@TamboJazz i don't see too many hurdles for anyone who wants to learn and practice art as is. What are you thinking of?
@@iRaps1 Very well, if you do not have obstacles in the country where you live, it is perfect, but I did not write only for your country, but for the whole planet, so that the message serves governments that are not like that of your country, for example In my country there is VERY LITTLE HELP FROM THE NGOVERNMENT, so I congratulate you, because you are in a country where there is help for the arts, I congratulate you again and everyone in your country!
@@TamboJazz well either way, I was a bit rude so i apologize. i can definitely agree on art being good for everyone associated with it

I've played sax for 10 years and haven't heard so much talk about tone! I reckon it sounds great, just like a small tenor in tone.
Its free jazz that is why that soprano "sound bad"
9 people have their right speaker broken.
