After reading the comments I decided to read the book after just listening to it. Yes, this version is abridged but I do think it is pretty well done. The book is not exactly linear, seeing events from each daughter's view. However, whoever has abridged it has done it well. You get the linear progression of the story and a strong sense of what it is about. It is like a film script really. It misses out what wouldn't be visual on screen. I guess it has been done in order to circumvent copyright in some way?
