Discipline or Guilt? | The silent expectations of discipline while parenting | Nuked Coffee Podcast
As parents, or even just as people, are we going through life disciplining in an effective way or are we actually trying to provoke guilt?
Join me in today's conversation as I unpack this realization I had during a situation with my toddler. I'm sure many of us can relate to either feeling like we have to have a reaction out of someone in order to know that they understood what they did, or have had that happen to us.
I speak about my experiences through this as well as the impacts I believe it had on me and my hopes for my kids after having many experiences like this.
I hope this conversation finds you well! Please feel free to comment below with experiences you have had, growth or tips ...

    Wow, such a loaded topic. I think there are so many things involved in this topic and there is no simple or right answer. In regards to the situation with your son, I think that he the bounced back so quick or just stopped the bad behavior and and went about is day is like you said extremely positive and just all around good. What is making you question that and whether maybe you should question it further is also possible self reflection of where maybe you did something and your parents disciplined you, maybe you kept doing the same thing. Also it's different for a child sometimes then a teen. Also, your kids learn from you so even if you are still trying to change things within yourself, they are learning from you. I believe personality plays into it, he may act different than his brother as time goes on. People develop differently even from the same parents, there is so much to this. A child may be mischievous and actually may like watching his parents get a little angry ( not going to lie I was like that)...just some things to comment on. It also depends on what you learned from your parents and what works for you and doesn't, because you developed your own personality. This is an interesting topic that can go on and on. Ultimately, I think if the child has learned the lesson there is no reason to have them display some sort of guilt or remorse because the behavior stopped. If the behavior continued, that maybe a different story because the behavior may continue and maybe depending on the situation because what if he did something that could have resulted in him or someone else hurt (god forbid) or worse, i think what you would be looking for is understanding and with that may come remorse. This can go on so I'll stop

    More great points and I feel that its true, if you want to change things with yourself it starts from within. A lot of people make surface changes thinking that will make things different. That whole thing if you look different you will act different, but in the end all your doing is pretending. There are people who don't want to put in the work, but just thinking knowing they need change will magically change things. Looking forward to future topics, and Congrats on completing your first podcast series.

    Jaz you know artists are their own worst critics. Also, having the courage to discuss something you messed up or don't like helps other people as well. A lot of people don't like to say I created something that didn't come out good. Because what are mistakes? Learning experiences. No artist is prefect no person is perfect. And the best thing about it, you can do it over. The hardest thing is to keep going. I think this was a great video on overcoming that. A lot of artist like to show hey I did this amazing picture...but I'm not going to show the ten failed attempts prior. 😊🦖

    Hustle culture really is one of the most toxic things about the world. It's like...what's the hurry? We're all on this planet together and rushing through our time here hurts everything.

    • @JasmineFrances
      @JasmineFrances Месяц назад

      I couldn't agree more. It is really unfortunate and I think is maybe an accidental side effect of social media. Nothing is ever "enough" so we have to keep trying to get to another level but I have really found, especially recently, when I allow myself to step back and just be there is so much goodness in what's not hustled for at all. Things like laughter, playing with my kids, eating a good meal, going for a walk. The simple things move humans the most and we miss so much opportunity to be moved every day.

    I thought you made some interesting points. And because I know your going to ask, especially about prayer. Praying for the same thing over and over as if God isn't hearing you was a very interesting point. This will be short it has been a very long day, but the other thing you said about seeing yourself, but not being able to see your face in these little fantasies...imaginative moments...what about a series of paintings where you paint or draw these scenes with a girl picking flowers, another at the beach, and so forth and the first in the series, she has no face. But with each drawing her face becomes more and more pronounced and clear? Something to think about.

If you have the financial runway to pursue your dream just go for it. I am sure you will be successful. And just to share some other idea about work/mum life balance, I work fully remotely with a company based pretty far away so I this way part of my working day is when my kids sleep, and for the other remaining few hours I am able to manage with my husband and parents support for taking care of the kids. It’s hard but doable and I get to spend most of the day with my kids that way. Whatever decision you take it will be the right one for you and your family. I hope everything is going good for you right now. Definitely don't feel like a failure or anything like that for moving in with your parents with your kids when your husband isn't taking care of his own family. If it helps, I think in the old testament law there's an understanding that if a woman is widowed or the man divorces her, she moves back into her father's house and he oversees her well being. Maybe that's part of why the biblical marriages were generally set up and approved by the fathers?? I'll have to look into a reference for this at some point, but I hope that lessens a mental weight from you. You're in a hard spot and I can't imagine going through that without family stepping in to get you set back up. And it seems like they're extremely supportive. God is in control of everything, and gives strength to those that trust in Him. God bless you! ❤️

      Hey! Thanks for asking, if you want a bit more detail I would recommend watching this video, ruclips.net/video/Mb1mCZ-2K8E/видео.html Overall I am going through a divorce, that video gives a decent picture of the situation. I plan to make a video sharing all of what happened but am letting the dust settle before doing so.

  • @Shelb13v
    @Shelb13v 4 месяца назад

    Hey friend, i noticed you mentioned hiring a lawyer for divorce. I wanted to encourage you to look at 1 Corinthians 7:10-16, and 1 peter 3. I definitely strongly recommend you stay with him if it is possible and if he doesn't allow you back to remain single and not divorce him while working to restore your marriage. I know this subject isn't taught about much but the Bible covers everything we need to know for marriage and living a God honoring life.

    • @JasmineFrances
      @JasmineFrances 4 месяца назад

      Hey, thank you for the encouragement. I did look at the scriptures and I will say, because I am not quite ready to make a video regarding all that is going on yet, 1 Corinthians 7:15-16 would be my case and therefore biblically, God want's peace for those who believe in him. That scripture alone says if the unbeliever is the one who walks away then there is no bondage for the one who believes, so why would I try to stay bonded? I don't know that I understand how one not allowing the other back and then the other working on the restoration of a marriage is possible because it takes two people in each and every relationship. Just like God won't restore a person if they are not pursuing him, in relationship with him, and trying to know and understand all he desires for his people. I believe that your heart is in a good place and I do appreciate you taking the time to share scripture with me. I suppose all I can say is that I trust that God is with me in all of this and my faith is in Him and he can and will do whatever it is that needs to be done. At this time all I am focused on is my mental health and being a wonderful mother for my boys. ❤️

    Hi there, being a single mom while also being expected to take care of finances is rough. It's so nice your parents have allowed you all to stay with them. IDK this dynamic, but if this is working for everyone, maybe do it for a couple years - until the kids have reached age 3 at least. I'm not sure if the ex is paying child support or what... If you want to do the daycare thing to gain more working experience for your resume, and bring in a little money while getting to spend time with your kids - that's a fair option, but i wouldn't suggest doing it for the kids, if that makes sense. The kids don't need daycare, parents do. Otherwise, maybe you can try to be a stay at home mom raising your kids, but also helping your parents as needed (grocery shopping, paying bills, get the car inspected, help with lawn care, etc.) so you feel like your contributing and they don't feel like you're taking advantage? Again, IDK the dynamic. Your friend looking out for you is super sweet - sounds like a nice job to have, so i understand the struggle in trying to decide. All of this said, i don't even have my own life figured out yet. Best of luck to you! 🤗

    • @JasmineFrances
      @JasmineFrances 4 месяца назад

      Hi! Yes, that does make perfect sense. When I've watched the video back I can see how badly I am contemplating the "right" thing instead of considering that there isn't always a right or wrong. In my first video I share quite a bit about my feelings toward daycare. I understand its purpose but I was a stay at home mom for more reasons than just the cost of it. I believe in the benefit for the kids, wholeheartedly. I am still in I guess what could be considered the early stages of divorce so there is no steady money coming in just yet. The dynamic is fine, there will be adjustments but there is grace extended on both ends so I know we could make it work for an extended period of time if we needed to- which would probably be the best thing for the boys. This is one of those times where having a lot of societal noise makes it feel "embarrassing" instead of being happy and thankful for how it's all working out, you know what I mean? I do appreciate you taking the time to share and help me to articulate more what matters to me and what is most beneficial to my kids. Well maybe you don't need to! Something tells me you're probably doing better than you think! Thank you for the luck!

    I'm glad you know where to turn when things are hard. When I was 19ish Jesus saved me. I went from being a child, scared of hell so i got baptized and was always told to remember that day of i ever questioned my salvation. Everyone would affirm i was a Christian. So finally i realized i wasn't like what the Bible taught and went the way opposite of the Scriptures. Ironically when a girl asked me if i had spiritual beliefs i said I'm a Christian but don't act like one, i started questioning things. Eventually God convicted me of the truth that i didn't know him. I realized if i was to die that very second i was in hell forever because i was in rebellion against God and He is holy and perfect. I finally surrendered to Jesus, and the work He did by dying on the cross to save the world from their sins, was buried and then raising himself from the grave on the third day, to defeat death so we can have eternal life, which i want to say is free to anyone who will just put their faith (confidence) in Him. It's amazing when you're not burdened by sins anymore and get to be truly free.

      That’s a beautiful story, thank you so much for sharing! I hope it lends itself to more than just me. Relationship with Jesus can feel tricky or “imaginary” when you’re sort of just conforming or floating through it all. I grew up catholic and my sister and I talk about this a lot. Our lack of understanding and knowing. But it becomes so fun and interesting when you dive into the Bible and prayer. I always notice so much more awareness in my daily life and seeing all the connections that are made. Im in the middle of a great book all about the flesh and sin, it’s packed right now but I wonder if you’ve read it!

    I'm praying God will help you. It's great you understood how important and great it is for your kids to be at home with them nurturing them as only a mother is created to do. Whatever the situation is exactly, i gather you left your husband because you felt you had to? I know i probably have no idea what's actually going on, is it possible to return to your husband and restore your marriage? I hate seeing families breaking apart so want to encourage that whenever possible. Praying blessings and restoration for you and your children.

      That is correct...I will make a video more in depth of all of this when the time is right. I don't think it's appropriate just because of all the feelings around everything. I would hate to put something out there before I was in a place to do it the right way. Thank you for your love and support and I will take all the prayers you're willing to pray- especially for my little guys. Thank you for taking the time to leave some of your thoughts. My goal is to share my process and journey as honestly as I can, it’s funny you mention this because I plan on making another video diving into this specifically as I’ve realized as I walk through all of this there is a belief I’ve created. My hope is never to alienate anyone, but to express what I’m going through as rawly as possible in hopes it can speak to others hearts and bring us together.

      @@JasmineFrancesI'm afraid I'm not deep enough into your video to understand the situation, but I saw this comment and want to encourage you not to listen to the subtle deceiving/discouragement about wanting to stay at home with your children. I've been there. In college I had to write a paper about my upbringing and bias I need to identify, the feminist professor was constantly saying don't use terms like a broken home, I pushed back and was so glad I did, because she couldn't justify her position but I could. Anyways, sorry you're having a hard time whatever it is and may God restore and correct any problems your family is facing.

      @@Shelb13v Thank you for this! I'm proud of you for doing that, I am sure it was hard and uncomfortable! It's interesting to me that verbiage like that would bother your professor. I think we do ourselves such a disservice when we aren't willing to share things we've been through. Of course not everyone will agree or understand but isn't part of human connection offering the willingness to love and listen anyway? Thank you for all your prayers, I receive all of them!

    • @Shelb13v
      @Shelb13v 4 месяца назад

      @@JasmineFrancesso true! I think that the professor had an agenda to push feminism, and usually deducted points for things like that. And yes! It helps to be able to say what you're feeling and thinking and get good advice. We were definitely designed with the need to express ourselves. Hopefully you have a good friend to listen to you and give Godly advice in your hard situation. I'm a Christian and have been helped greatly (and seen amazing things happen for other women) by 1 Corinthians 7 and 1 peter 3. I'll definitely try to say a prayer if your situation comes into my mind.

Congratulations, while it can be trying it is still such a beautiful time! I feel so touched even reading what you said because sometimes having big dreams (and a lot of them) can feel so lonely ON TOP of being a new mom! You just have to find the ability to give yourself grace and fully accept who you are and the things you wish to pursue and create!! It is a process, one that I surely haven't mastered yet. I really encourage you to keep doing what you can when you can. It's not that you don't have anything, you're just on the journey to getting there. The mindset shift is hard when you're tired or feel forced to do the "responsible" things, but every little step now counts!! We do got this! I really believe the more we give ourselves time to do the things we love the more love we will have to share. (:
