Nice work. I spent a few years working for a greeting card company as a senior designer/illustrator. Anyway...There's a show in New York City at the Jacob Javitz Center called The National Stationary Show each year and running usually at the same time is The Surtex Show which is pattern designers for textiles and giftware- gift wrap. These two shows you would be able to shop your merchandise at or at least meet some art directors. I think that you do terrific work. I had never thought in my art and design career that I would ever do greeting card design and had zero interest in it but turned out to be good at in various areas of design approach. The company wanted me there and came after me to accept the position, but the other design staff did not want me there at first. I was kind of an outsider with other ideas and background. A kind of jack of all trades master of none, but that served me well being versatile. I survived as an artist that way moving around for over forty years now professionally. I spent most of my art career up until that greeting card art point as a senior designer/illustrator for a major corporation working on graphics for sports stadiums, universities, airports and national landmarks. I also illustrated for magazines, major clothing companies and books. I was never good at what you do in that whimsical approach but worked with several talented designers that were similar to you and admired them, but you are better and so the fact that you are marketing your own brand is pretty wonderful. You should go to these shows I mentioned just to see and compare. You have a gift and keep it going. I have traveled a long winding journey in art and did just about anything that involves art and design. I'm a fine artist painter now and have huge respect for graphics like what you do. It's not easy to be good at it and you are good. Have a great holiday season!

I started an art business in addition to working full time this year and I am so happy to have found your channel! My favorite thing about the video was hearing how overwhelmed you feel and how things weren't coming in on time, as well as what sold well and your tips for a successful market! You're so personable and I love this realistic view at what it takes to run a small business. I've had many moments this year of feeling overwhelmed and behind but end up pulling it off, and this is the type of content that I find so relatable and comforting!! <3

I really needed to hear this right now. I'm a graphic designer, been at the same job that I got out of college for 3 years now, and I've been feeling really hopeless lately. The job is very simple and way more lax than anything else I could ever find, so I feel really guilty for wanting more creative freedom and craving bigger challenges. Only recently have I started trying to make my own stuff outside of work for my artistic sake, but it just feels like turning the passion projects into a real career is impossible :') so thank you for sharing your story and re-instilling hope in me <3

I've just set up a subscription service on patreon and i haven't really been promoting it because I feel self conscious - this was so inspiring, thank you for sharing the process!

I actually very similarly went to school for graphic design, at Pratt Institute, hoping to use that degree to help me on the digital back end of fashion illustration and now work full time and am working towards becoming a full time artist! Took a break in between the two as a single mom raising my daughter and am now married and pursuing my art more than ever.

It’s funny I’m in a program now where content creators learn the ropes of the ad world (however a lot of people along for the ride are already coming from some branch of the industry.) I am an artist too but I do want to eventually be an art director but nowhere near an ad agency. 😅 and yes it’s a lot of work. Thanks for sharing.

Okay, back to what I wanted to say! 😂 I have a pair of the Stance socks you designed ❤ that are ones of my favorites and when I decided to pursue art (a few months ago), it was that pair of socks that was at the top of my dream list of what I wanted to do!!! I was in a big car accident yesterday and I was trying to see the bigger reason for that to happen. When you said those words, IT WAS THE MESSAGE I needed to hear. ❤ You have no idea what it means to me. ❤ You see, I'm 44 and don't have the luxury of time like you talked about but I believe I can do something cool with the rest of my life. wow thank you so much for sharing! i feel like im in the same boat as you but am just beginning... i just quit my job (i worked at an elementary school and realized i dont want to be a teacher) and am now looking for graphic design jobs to become an art director. however, i feel like i don't really know what this career actually looks like and how to get into this world and have been questioning what my dreams really are. im trying to come to terms with the obvious answer (since i was a kid ive wanted to be an artist) and what this means and how i should approach this. so ever since ive been unemployed i apply to jobs and then make art afterwards. Sometimes it can feel kinda aimless because 'being an artist' can feel so daunting and unrealistic. its hopeful to hear your story and to see whats possible if im just disciplined, patient, and dedicated with my work!
