I was 4 years old the first time I recall hearing this song in my Mother's 1976 Dodge Dart. We were in East Los Angeles and blocks away from my Grandparents house, which we were headed to and stuck behind a huge green 7-up delivery truck. It was a chilly February morning in 1977.

Circa 1885 men loved to drink and fight. Joe Montferrand was the most famous of them all, a very strong lumberman. His people had come over to Quebec with Montcalm, and when Joe retired from work he lived in Montreal and was celebrated in the "best" circles. Nice to have this song remembering him.

A very tragic, but beautiful, story. A little Old Lady has one last request granted to her, by this Gentleman buying one of her Paper Roses. Then, she goes outside, and tragically falls to the ground, dead. But-What she experienced in that last moment of human kindness, touches my heart. If only we'd all be so loving and kind, to help our fellow human beings, our neighbors, and everyone we come into contact with. This life would be so much better, if we'd look past any differences that we have, and just learn to be kind.

my step mother use to play with this fella in pictou county when he was around. she had a cassette tape recording of him. I grew up listening to his music. she sadly passed away in 2008, and the tape was lost when my father himself almost passed away in a horrific car accident. I'd love to get copies of a cd or something to give my dad something back and one for myself
