Episode 45: Tomas Haake (Meshuggah)
Episode 45 is with Tomas Haake of the Swedish band Meshuggah. This episode was recorded on the eve of the release of the bands latest album 'Immutable'. A fantastically beautiful, layered and crushing work of modern metal, that yet again proves them to be one of the most vital bands in the genre. Over the course of this conversation we discuss the writing and recording of the album during the pandemic, some of the dystopian themes covered in the lyrics, the idea that all great art has an ethereal nature that is hard to pinpoint, yet is easy to recognise when it resonates for some of us and also the hypnotic trancelike quality that I find the bands music to have. We also talk a little abou...

Amazing interview well done mate! Please interview AM again we need it.
What a nice interview.
What a fascinating conversation! Absolutely wonderful listen. Tobias has such an amazing brain
This is so important, to hear an actual member of that process, who was documented and to hear it from their memory, from their mouth, at least there’s a reference to fall back on. There’s so much speculation on social media and that’s how rumors and misrepresentation start, what nonsense for the most part.
Just discovered your podcast. It's a shame more people don't listen to these despite the high profile guests you get on. Thanks for making this.
@@thitherword thanks it does good numbers on pod platforms.
Thanks for sharing!
I nearly snarfed my hot coffee when he just said RAOUL SUCKS. Complete and total agreement. Hopefully he didn't say that to Patrick Wilson when they recorded Stay.
An authentically elevating person in every way !
Brilliant, excellent questions and tone. Would love a follow up.
As someone who has heard a billion Morrison interviews, think it's a cool decision to cut that story out. Also is this the Radio 1 rock show Daneil Carter? Also the guy who did an amazing of MCR's Kids of yesterday, better than the original imo
"it's not angry, it's expressive…" Well yeah, anger is an expression, and expression is the way to show emotions, like anger. Nothing wrong with anger either, necessarily.
Loved this interview it deserves more views and ur channel more subs. Thanks
What happened to his eye? Looks droned
MM I stand with you. 1:11:52 You always inspired me to believe in myself and have a purpose and a good life and you're art and music has been amazing and inspiring me.I am proud of you for being the best ever since I was a kid you helped me with depression. and so many other people as well .I don't know what else to say really except Thank you for being you.
What does Tobias mean when he says he wants to eat the soil of Laurel Canyon? To become part of what?
To absorb the musical culture of the 60s I guess
Best interview I've heard with Alan Moore. Well done, Sir!
Thank you.
I became the biggest Marilyn Manson fan after becoming disabled and have heavy metal in my body!!! I don't know why it took this long but I am also happy because I need him and completely understand him now. Plus I think he knows me in a strange way!!! He keeps me going through horrifying pain and and needing a wheelchair!!! Love him so much now and am so grateful that I am collecting all his vinyl now!!!💔♿🖤💔♿🖤
Such a great introduction. ❤ Love him and his work. ❤
I've been to India and lepper tried to stock the bone of his arm up my nose whilst begging. I had to yell fuck off Baba chello. He didn't have a nose either. That's real darkness there not hidden away. Other buggers shoiti.h like really high pitch enough to put any extreme metal people to shame lol. Svizos disabled naked holy men covered with the ashesob the dead. Come one come all life has taken on new meening.
Use to like his playing style, until i learned that he was NPD and did his last wife dirty...and after watching this i i see he has TDR too, what a ass. Smh
Knowing that he is determined to keep working and creating just makes me so happy. I can’t wait to meet him in Auguat
Everything Chino does is amazing 🖤 I would love a new Deftones album!
Great interview! I could listen to Billy talk all day!
Thank you and likewise!
Only just finished listening to this. I thought I’d listened to most of Tobias’s interviews but obviously I haven’t so thank you for letting Tobias speak but also loved your perspectives too . This man deserves everything he’s dreamed of I cannot wait for the next Ghost album / tour.
I was so excited to read Jerusalem, but I couldn’t get past the first 50 pages - which surprised me. Just felt a bit quaint. On the other hand, ‘From Hell’ does what it says on the tin 👅 🔥
Just hearing his voice is so soothing when he speaks.🔥💯🖤
All these no name podcasts getting all these legendary artists 🤣
This no name podcast only got added to RUclips fairly recently. Its been on pod platforms for years...
Excellent interview, a great conversation where you really got Tobias to speak his heart. What was the location?
In London...
@@someonewhoisntmepodcast Thanks but I meant which hotel?
How this is not getting more views is beyond me. Great interview. You are genuine / authentic - and Maynard I believe can immediately detect and respect that.
Not even 1000 views!! Wtf !!??
WT7 . Yep, we will never know...
Love it! No, I would not let A. Crowley into my house let alone babysit. 😂
Wizards 🧙♂️ exist
Why istn he straight forward? alsways the "i understand", sometimes "i feel that too". Why not just say straight forward, what he thinks and what is his opinion??
Amor fati. Samsara is a thorn bush and we keep adjusting ourselves to find a more comfortable thorn. We fix one problem for another to arise in its place, never truly finding the root cause, which is our mind of ignorance, the "I don't know why I did that" mind. And so we're blown about by the winds of our karma, never truly feeling lasting, permanent happiness, mainly because we do not know the causes. So we eat better, jog a bit, listen to some good choonz, but it's all impermanence with nothing to grasp. The Wheel of Life is an artistic dipiction of the cycles of samsara with Buddha standing outside, pointing to the moon because he can show us the way out, but he can't actually liberate you, you have to do that yourself. If something is a true cause of happiness, the more we increase it the more happy we become. No amount of temporary relief, a chicken salad or spin class is going to do that. Only virtue, moral discipline, wisdom, patience, giving, love, compassion, bodhichitta, etc., can, bring lasting happiness but you can't sell books or run self help seminars on stuff like that. No one wants to here, "you may die today and your self important yet meaningless life has meant nothing for your future mental continuum's benefit, let alone anyone else's". We all wanna feel like special, unique little snowflakes who make a real difference by using your recyclable bag at Tesco. No one will remember who you are in a few decades, your body will rot and your thoughts will scatter to the wind. All the suffering you experienced will be for nothing, as will your paltry efforts to change the world, one meaningless vote at a time. Amor fati means not only accepting your fate, but truly, truly accepting that life is suffering in this thorn bush every moment of our self imputed existence. The only thing we can do, the ONLY thing we can do is leave seeds for future selves will will never encounter to experience the toil of our present efforts. Plant trees you will never taste the fruit of. Why? You can throw a spanner in the works of this miserable existence and leave gifts for those you will never meet. Now THAT'S extraordinary. Thanks for this talk, I wish I was there to interrupt ever 5 seconds with a didyehknow. Peace out neegrz ❤
Horee sheet!!! 😲 Chino, now Maynerdz, and next Alan Moore. I found gold in deez ere hills! 🎉
I fuckin' LOVE longform talks. I subbed. This comment sounds rude now, and I didn't even mean it to! Chino's voice, man 🤤🤤🤤 The interviewer is brillyunt too! It ALWAYS makes for a better interview when the one asking the questions isn't dumb as a box of rocks (I stole that phrase, I heard it today and it made me laugh). Ah luff oooooo, Chinoz Moreenowz!!! 💖💋🌹
Man, I wish I had a friend to share this with and get excited about it with. 🥴😲🤓
Guys, that, was hands down one of the best pods I've ever listened to!!! Absolutely loved it. Thanks mucho x
what a brilliant interview!
Architects have helped me so much and have been my all time favorite band for a long time its cool to see this posted on youtube as well

Humanity cannot live without an existential world threatening crisis. Ww1, ww2, nuclear threat, environmental disaster, industrialisation, Russian revolution etc etc etc
Big fan of AMs work. Surprised he didn't bring the unconsciousness into the picture of magic.
AH.... now he talks of Jung.
Superb interview! thank you so much!
Marvelous interview! Thank you so much!
❤❤❤
Thank you so much to share this!
Gratified he knows the correct pronunciation of Crowley; all these years I've read dozens of interviews with Jaz but never heard him speak it.
Jaz is prescient
The God of Milton Keynes! 😆 This was a fascinating conversation.
