I think you have a great foundation that bridges computer science and medicine! I’d also say to think about any ways you can include a community aspect there - for example, have you met with any patients? If you have, highlighting any such interactions is a great way to showcase bridge building with that community as well.

Absolutely-mentoring underserved children is a very noble thing you can write about in the context of bridge building. I’d encourage you to think about the specific actions you took when teaching to better connect with the student, the specific conversations you two had, and anything else that comes to mind that strengthened your connection.

I’d definitely say to answer it regardless. After all, it’s only a few hundred words, and your point about showcasing effort is valid, especially since you’ll be competing with candidates who will choose to write the essay. I’d encourage you to think about any extracurricular experiences distinct from what you mention in your Personal Statement in which you’ve done bridge building. If you don’t have any such examples, you could also use this essay to elaborate on the example mentioned in your Personal Statement and mention student organizations at NYU in which you hope to make similar contributions.

Talk about how, in your capacity as house captain, you’ve worked to form connections with new members who have joined your house (such as through mentorship and/or tutoring) and, if relevant, how you’ve worked with other house captains to host cooperative events.

I used Adobe Creative Cloud for everything: for the animations, I used Adobe Animate and Illustrator, and I put all the clips together with Adobe Premiere Pro.

Geopolitical topics can definitely be tough to broach in college essays as you never know who will be reading your essays on the admissions side. That said, if you are really passionate about the issue, discussing it can be a way to authentically showcase who you are to the admissions committee. A question you can think about is this: what kinds of new viewpoints you could bring to the topic through your essay? Would you have the space in the limited word count provided to flesh out your thoughts? If not, you may wish to consider an alternative topic.

Though other Ivies offer similar programs (e.g. Princeton’s Independent Major Program), they are much less flexible and more selective than Brown’s Independent Concentration program as Brown is the only Ivy with no core/gen-ed requirements. As a result, very few students pursue such opportunities at other programs.

Thank you! And absolutely - Brown students can easily complete multiple concentrations, especially since all degrees (including those in engineering) are under one undergraduate college. Plus, Brown’s lack of core requirements makes it easy to take care of all courses needed to earn two concentrations.

Your logic makes sense! In a word, Prompt 3 is more geared toward future efforts (how you might contribute) while Prompt 4 can be used to showcase how you’ve done so already in a community. Just make sure in Prompt 3 to go beyond the definition and showcase how you plan to embody that ethos in your future actions.
