It is unfortunate that a small group of people are trying to hijack the property rights of individuals that have existed for decades. One of the members moved into Surfpines a couple years ago and summarily lectured one homeowner that if they could not afford the home without renting that they should sell it! These people move into areas and shut the door behind them. It is very sad that the dictum, "do unto others as you would they do unto you" seems to have disappeared in what used to be a sane peaceful world. There are two rentals proximate to my home. I have no intention of renting my vacation home. We just had two families use our home over the last couple weeks who otherwise would be unable to enjoy the Oregon coast. Before you know it, this group will seek to require our guests be vetted by this regime. I wonder if these people just have too much time on their hands.

I do not understand the plan to limit STRs only west of hwy 101? Can someone respond to explain this to me? Although it might increase value for properties east of hwy 101, I cannot see how it will not be of benefit to anyone otherwise.

My family has been summering in Arch Cape since 1911, have lived here full time since the 1940s. My husband and I raised our children here. My great grandmother is buried in Astoria. We are committed to this part of the coast as a residential community. STRs are rapidly becoming a nuisance. Please "disallow" short term rentals in Arch Cape, even if existing licenses must be allowed to continue. Arch Cape must not be allowed to become a destination resort but remain primarily a residential community. I would not like to see more than we already have.
