Coyote snagged in Duke #4 foot hold trap
Просмотров 128 тыс.12 лет назад
Pack of Coyotes have been feeding on our cats and dogs out here in the country just North East of Dallas (Lavon). Beginning to fight back. Not sure what went wrong with this Duke trap ... it's out of the box new and was buried about an inch under the surface. Video was shot with a Bushnell Trophy Cam. Any suggestions are welcome. d
You're gonna need a bigger trap??
why cant we let animals live? we killed all the wolves and bears and mountain lions in the eastern USA, they used the same excuse of they will eat your pets and small children. Guess what HUMANS WILL TOO!
After the escape of this jackal he will told to others that hunters has come be care ful
GREAT IM PA WOODS I NEVER THOUGHT THEY GET OUT OF A DUKE TRAP
Yea Was disappointed when I reviewed the video
I think my daddy used a lot of Victor number fours like from the 70s what my dad did is with the jeweler's file about a sixteenth of an inch in you just filed down a little Groove on both the latch that goes over the jaw and the one on the pan when you go to set it just line the notches up. From that point forward my dad had zero non-target catches meaning he stopped catching rabbits and possums and skunks and all those smaller animals my dad also traps bobcats in New Mexico what's your way more pussyfooting than a coyote and immediately started seeing a lot less has visits to his sites and a lot more caches
Thanks for the intel / suggestion !!
Didn't make a sound either. Did that hurt the animal?
Not sure but … I’m sure it had a sore foot for a bit
@@mrfordstroker I just think it's funny. Watch a dog get caught. It will start whining and yelping and crying like a big old baby. It's not that hurt it's just scared and freaked out. You watch a Wily old coyote that knows that screaming and crying alerts predators a coyote isnt going to cry and yelp when it steps into a trap and alert everybody else around them they are now vulnerable and in danger what animal walks around all day long listening for that sound. The point is a lot of your average people he spend time in the woods with their animals don't understand trapping nor do they do it. Add that on top of people true then illegally set their traps too close to hiking trails. Even if it is an area you can set legally if you know there's a high amount of foot traffic you really got to ask yourself should you still set here or do you now need to spend some time scouting and find a further away location 2 set at. How effective is your Chi o s a b with tons of dogs walking by everyday anyway. Your average voter all they know is their dog is in a trap and screaming and crying may even be vicious and try to bite or attack the owner and chances are the owner does not know how to depress the coil springs and released the jaws of the Trap. So now they're going to call law enforcement law enforcement going to come out there and look at your set better have a Trapper ID number on there you better have a current license and I have someone could be pissed off and right there f****** governor then the next thing you know trapping is going to be illegal in your state. Just food for thought for anyone out there Trappin and wants to continue to do it
I always find it very interesting how, even in darkness, a coyote is constantly "on guard" and looking around for danger.😎
Will, I was surprised as well. Also learned that they have tremendous respect for skunks. ;)
@@mrfordstroker in early December 2020, a farm family I am friends with had a cow die. And since they had been seeing coyotes a lot prior to that, they decided to put the cow out in a mowed meadow nearby. They hired a couple of young trappers, who set up traps near the carcass. And my friends also set up a trail cam to take in the scene. Knowing that I would like to see the live cam, they linked me in, so that every time an animal set off the cam, I would receive a text photo and a 10 second video. Having hunted coyotes for the last nearly 50 years, I have a lot of experience with coyote's daytime behavior. But none when it comes to nighttime. Anyway, I found it very interesting how the coyotes would timidly take a bite of cow, then jump back a bit. And while chewing, constantly look around...... Sorry to be so long-winded.😁
They have a keen sense of hearing. I setup a firing position in my second floor bedroom window which overlooked that area you see in the video which was about 100 yards away. I would stay up all hours of the night scouting from that window with an AR15 fitted with a thermal weapon sight. I learned that a coyote can hear, from 100 yards… the click when someone takes their gun off safe… not enough to make them run but enough for them to wonder. 😉
I do too... animal AND human skunks..... ive met a few... human skunks... glad I did, if I hadnt I wouldnt know what they smelled like.@@mrfordstroker
Depressing
That’s a smart dog
I'll bet he's got a couple or three sore toes !
Duke is trash. Go American made.
Educated that one ! He'll be a hard 1 to get after that happened
That was my thought as well ... back in 2010 we were experiencing a pretty significant drought here and coyotes were everywhere ... things have calmed down a bit with these critters but we still see them occasionally on the game cams I’ve setup around the property... haven’t lost anymore pets to coyotes since... also, never did catch one with a foot trap... I did setup a spot on the second floor of the house (sniper location) and took some shots with an AR15 equipped with a thermal weapon sight... and “educated” a few during those exercises as well.
Buy American made traps.
Wooow nice nice so Beautiful 😊😉👍
Trap set too deep
I prefer a number 5 because it has a little more power and it is not so easy to pull free
Lol, really?? Number 2’s hold them all day long. Running MB550’s 2 coil and don’t have pullouts because of the trap. An occasional al stone or stick might get between the jaws but that’s not the traps fault.
Whatsssss????
OOOFFF
WTH happen ?
Too light of a pan tension and it was a Duke trap.
It lookes like the coyote approached over the levers which makes it harder for the trap to hold (you can correct me if I'm wrong) and the burying an inch of soil can slow the trap down esp if it is rained in. More pan tension could help, but you will start missing the smaller animals. I put 1.5 music wire springs on the other side. And don't have to worry about all that stuff. It's my preference, and a pretty hot debate.
Is your trap 4 coiled duke 4 is the only duke trap that has trouble with lockup. It helps if you 4 coil the trap.
As others have said, the pan tension probably was way too light so that the slightest downward pressure from his step triggered the trap. At that point, the foot wasn't very far into the trap so that by the time it cleared all that dirt, the fox could pull nearly all of his foot off the trap, resulting in catch only by one or two toes. That isn't enough to hold a coyote. But also notice that the yote bit the trap right before he pulled free. Biting one of the levers can squeeze the trap open just enough to let the animal jerk their toes loose. These are not stupid animals. They are quite smart and are going to bite the trap like that most of the time. Lots of other videos on You Tube showing larger critters like bobcats and coyotes biting the trap levers. There's nothing wrong with the trap you used. It just needs to be fine tuned to work like it should., You may want to ask another trapper to let you observe what they do in making their sets too. No need for a trap to be buried very deep. And you need to put down some type of pan cover before you start putting dirt over the trap. Better luck on the next one! Keep at it. You will figure it out.
@@groomersgotohell Congratulations!
Im wondering whats better, foot or cage trap because the coyotes near me are eating my cats and they're pretty skiddish.
try both!!
oops just noticed your comment was a year ago . did you ever catch em?
Andrew Wolfle im new to trapping , but in 2 weeks I’ve already had success w them , Ive caught 1 coyote and 1 bob cat pictures are on my Instagram @austinnn.69 if you wanna see them
Andrew Wolfle I’m gonna have a video on my channel about it soon subscribe to see it
@@yeetpotato5096 Boil new traps to remove any grease and throw in some walnuts to die them a bit, if you have them. Further advice is throughout the comment section.
Luca zenoni you make a fucking no sense jibberish not understandable must learn proper english and how to put together sentence
I have trouble reading your sentence also.
that's shitty
if it was trapped like my 650 mb never trap cast would have run powerful traps for coyotes and other animals
Dukes are rarely ready to trap right out of box make sure pan is flat and level with ground damn close though that sucks
I believe you're right. Coyotes are still around but now that there's plenty of water and other sources of food they've backed off on bothering our pets.
I'm having a problem with my dude it seems more of like a fight trying to get the jaw all the way down while pushing the dog on place any tricks or tips to help with it thanks
@@nicksmith3683 The pressure from the springs pushing only one side of the levers is warping the levers. Duke is made from cheap China dump steel and the only way to remedy that warping from happening is to buy better made traps. I prefer the MB 550s and MB 650s. They are pricey but built like a tank and will last a lifetime. "Cry once and smile a lot, or smile once and cry a lot." Trust me, throw away the Dukes and buy better traps.
nice vidéo thank you
1 inch too deep 1/2 inch max depth,, i noticed all the dirt that flew up
I caught a few toes and toenails until I increased the pan tension just about 3 pounds.
Not snagged.
publish video
What are you saying here?
That sucks i had one to pull out of a trap this week and last week.
+Realgrower was the foot trap too small?
Looks like your trap was covered to much... It looked like it had to go through a good bit of dirt before it got to the coyote and it gave it enough time to jump and only get snagged
Shouldn't have buried it
it sucks that it got out
I would not suck if a stupid hick trapper get seriously injured by these primitive barbaric crap.
@@anonywatch9138 idiot
@@anonywatch9138 Jesus!!!! where did you learn NOT to spell?
Longer chain. When he jumped he pulled his foot most of the way out. That is a perfect trap for coyotes. New and right out of the box traps need some modifications done to them. File the burs off of the pan and dog. Adjust the dog length so the pan lays flat and then set your pan tension to around 4lbs. Then at least boil and degrease your trap. If you had made all of these adjustments, he would have not jumped out and been waiting for you in the morning.
Are you people serious??...why trap? It says so right in the description. He traps because the coyotes are eating his cats. . .Mrford...How come it was buried 1 inch and not just have enough dirt on it to hide it? Did it still have that 'new trap smell' to it that it had to be hidden that deep? Also it may have had the pan too loose like its been mentioned. A closer shot would be better to see what happened. Try putting the camera closer where you put your barrier. You might have to block some of the LEDs so it doesn't get all white out.
Maybe if they stop using dogs as "bait" coyote (while no dogs were used in this video) and wolves (not in this vid) wouldn't lose fear to us. And then preying on pets. Some shit hole states want to allow this savagery. Idaho’s State Senate wants to use live dogs to eradicate wolves And probably does the same to the coyotes. www.examiner.com/article/idaho-s-state-senate-wants-to-use-live-dogs-to-eradicate-wolves
+AnonyWatch!!!! Yrah, there are shit holes in those states, making the laws
@@chickm14 The coyote is just hungry.
yo trap to big try a three
and mrfordstroker, try using only about a 1/4 inch of duff covering the trap or tighten up the pan tension a bit that way they have to fully commit when they land on the pan, resulting in a full pad catch
I think that the problem was that as you buried it, you got dirt under the pan so it took more pressure to set it off.
Post more vids like that PLEASE
looks to be a toe catch. you had your pan set too lightly. you need to increase the pan tension so when they step on it, they're committed and they get caught higher on the foot/ankle.
to reduce their population and protect their property.
Why this Fuck trap is poor coyote
read the description dumbass just cause theyre cut dont mean there good
Poor coyote fuck why trap? ???!?"?"?"??!?"
Stop crying. If you don't want to watch the video, then don't watch it. It is that simple!
Wow, I wish I would'a been there, lol ! If this Coyote was eating any of my pets, I would have put out some road kill or something big enough for him to chew on for a while and then just popped him with my Compound Bow setup with a 1.5 inch, G 5, 100 Gram Striker Broadhead just so I wouldn't wake up the neighbors, lol !
Fuck the neighbors, I would have just shot him. I hear gunshots all the time.
@@frankiesun09 Shooting the coyote wouldn't make anything better besides he's not doing anything wrong.
