Thanks for doing this! Funny story is that I wasn't originally supposed to play the guitar for the interview. Seal's guitarist, Zach Wish, was going to do it however we couldn't make it work for the timing of the interview so SEAL asked if I would do it instead so we didn't have to postpone the interview. I was asked to prep for Kiss From A Rose only, and by the time I found out, it was a few days before the interview so I was scrambling to learn the arrangements he'd done up to this time and actually learned the song with a capo on the second fret like all his other guitar players had done who accompanied him in this duo performance set up. However, when we got to the studio, they had one capo, and Seal had the only acoustic, so we had to roll with me on that 1966 Stratocaster (which was amazing) - I'd just not prepped for a non-capoed electric guitar. We did one run through and then did the recorded take and that's what you see here. It went well enough that then Seal asked me to play Crazy and Still Love Remains without any prep other than just a practice run and then the take you see in the video. Needless to say, most of this was a blur for me, but at least I can enjoy the video now after the fact and I'm not as embarrassed as I thought I'd be about how I played. I think the mains things I did differently that what you normally see from his accompanists (that I haven't see in other versions), was the Jerry Cantrell-style voicing of the F# where I lifted the high E, B, and G to more of that acoustic, open-string voicing on "Ba-By" and the Hendrix-style double stops before going into the chorus. I also tried to use lots of open strings on that interlude arpeggio thing just to give some descending movement that could lead us into that last chorus.

I think this is funny cause as soon as I heard him I became obsessed with trying out his tone and such and I then came to the realization ... this is why Eddie Van Halen fans got obsessed with his "brown sound". Mkgees sound did it for me. Now someone has to coin his guitar sounds with a name such as *blank* sound and hes set for the history books lol.

So he used a low tuned baritone, a tone below the usual BEADF#B baritone tuning. Baritone is usually a 4th below standard tuning. He is tuned ADGCEA then he adds a capo on 3 = C F Bb Eb G C. Then he plays A shapes but it sounds in the key of F (not the usual key of G for a baritone when you use A shapes - as its tuned a tone low) So yes he could have just tuned to C F Bb Eb G C and not used a capo at all ! But then the strings aren’t so slack. Its a mixolydian chord structure. I IV b7 etc

I've heard that he uses a 7-string set and ditches the top string, using the lowest 6, since the guitar is a normal scale length (not baritone)

i think there's definitely a vocoder in there, the tone you've presented sounds a bit dry compared to the track. listening to the rest of the album definitely gives a hint there's some vocoding going on with the guitar. fantastic video though!
