I agree with your review. I too had to return many times to the character list in the front to remind myself of who was who. I also like your description saying it was like reading seven prologues. This kind of sums up the book for me. I was interested in all the characters - just needed more on each one.
Such a great book.
Too woke for me
I DNFed "The Paying guests" at 346 pages. It´s very well written but excrutiantingly slow and depressing. I agree with you completely
Thank you for pointing out the confusion in the book. I was afraid it was just me. And the panther! P.S. Your frequent use of "you guys" is annoying. 😢
The book is better than the movie, and the movie is very good. The book just has much more goodness to it
Hii i wanted to ask "Before we forget kindness is out or not?
19th September is the release day in the UK 😊
@@RobynWeightman I want to ask one more question where can I find the release date and all genuine information about the book?
From any bookshop online or in person 😊
Thanks for this i might get it now
Hi Robyn, Can a scene be broken ? Or does it have to be a complete beginning middle end (status quo - inciting incident - rising action - climax - resolution) I'm trying to make sense of all that : (
In your scene example... You said your character need to get into a castle steal an artefact and get out ? So you have 4 scenes ? - Getting into the castle - Looking and finding the artefact - Steal it - Getting out of the castle Is this one scene ? or four scenes and one sequence (getting the artefact) How many goals, can a character have in one single scene ? How many events can happen in one single scene ? I'm lost haha : (
Hey, In my opinion, a scene could be broken as that would be how a cliff hanger is formed. However, you could argue, that this is a formatting break rather than a scene break as the scene would usually continue straight away in the following chapter. But yes, I would say you can have a scene where a resolution is not reached but rather stops at the characters dilemma.
@@SHVDETHEDON You are correct, In the video I say these are three scenes with one scene in a full chapter - Getting into the castle is one scene and one chapter - the next chapter holds two scenes which is finding the artefact and then getting out of the castle. This gives the characters a goal per scene. You can also split scenes by area. For example, in my example given, you could say the scene's are split by outside the castle, within the castle, then the escape route of the castle. Ultimately, the scene structure I give here is just a basic, standard structure, but you can play with this and you can play with the idea of multiple goals, depending on the type of book and audience you are writing for. Scenes can be confusing, but try to think of it in three basic steps, problem, goal, how to get there. You can then decide from there if you want to split that into smaller and smaller chunks creating smaller scenes. Like overall planning your novel first, then getting into the smaller sections bit at a time until you have a full break down of your novel. I would recommend writing some short stories to play with scene structure ideas and see what works best for you and your style of writing. Ask people to read and see how they react, does it flow for them, etc. You could also watch TV episodes or a movie and see if you can spot the scenes, or in books you're reading. As given in the video, Terry Pratchett is quite a good one for this as he doesn't use chapters at all, but splits the book into scenes. I hope this helps make a little more sense. Do let me know if you have further queries :)
I was thinking last night and if the taking if the artefact is elaborate (more than just grabbing and running,) then you could create 4 scenes 😊
Great collection though🙌🙌
would u please suggest some children books?
Do you have an age range? I do read some middle grade but I don't read younger than that generally. I would highly recommend Jessica Townsend - Morrigan Crow series. SO GOOD!
@@RobynWeightman yeah middle grade would be fun..
Elizabeth Lim is another good Middle grade writer. I love Six Crimson Cranes and it's Prequel Her Radiant Curse. I've also heard fantastic reviews of Scandar and the Unicorn Thief. I haven't read this yet but it is on my list.
i just finished this novel today... and it was really good and im happy that the book deliver happy ending.. and most of the people havent read this novel... for me its solid 9/10
I loved it 😊 I've read the second - The Last Confession of Thomas Hawkins -and have just started the third - A Death at Fountains Abbey. Highly recommend. And agree, not met anyone else whose read Antonia Hodgson's work. Until now 😊
@@RobynWeightman would you please tell me what's the second book about
Of course 😊 The story continues with Tom and Kitty running Flint's book shop but a murder takes place and Tom must find out who did it or he'll be blamed. Cosy murder mystery. Quite fun 😊 I'm doing a reading vlog of the 2nd, 3rd & 4th book of my thoughts and sum ups of them all. We can compare notes if you decide to read them 📚
I love peace with the wild. I found them as they are in my local village next door to the coop and I only realised they had an online shop after going in there a lot
My string of pearls I keep in an east window on the sill and water when dry. I have two and the grow nicely. I use systemic granules to keep pests away.
Ooooo thank you! We mainly have south or north facing windows but two west facing I could try 🥰 Will look up the granules 🌱
@@RobynWeightman try the south facing window right on the sill or if that’s too much sun just pull it pack a foot.
Thank you 🥰 At the moment it is to the side of the south facing window but I will try putting it in more direct and see how it does 💚
I made the mistake of reading DUNE after I saw David Lynch's adaptation in 1984, and I didn't remember the book in great detail when I saw Denis Villeneuve's adaptation, so I can't critique these films as adaptations as well as would with The Lord of the Rings. That said, I felt Villeneuve's films to be as much a mixed bag as Lynch's. I fortunately got to see them in IMAX Laser, which made the viewing a real experience. If I had any negative takes, they're mostly down to choices made by the director that I disagreed with, such as his use of color during the Giedi Prime pit fighting sequence, the fight choreography or the silliness of the Holtzman shields. Overall, I'm enjoying rewatching this new adaptation while rereading the novel.
It's funny. I lived in Kōfu, Yamanashi for three years, but I never got a chance to try amanattō. It looks like you receive quite a treasure. 🙂
Look at that panda pot plant go!
It's HUGE right?! Thank you so much for bringing it into my life 💚🌱
String of pearls, in my opinion is a difficult plant to grow indoors. It needs very bright indirect light, like the succulent it is. Let it dry out between waterings with filtered or distilled water. If it loves its conditions, it will do well and if not it will look bad. I have had no luck with this plant and I have been caring for houseplants for fifty years I have100 plants in my current collection (had over 250 during COVID, but had to downsize when I moved).
Wow, thank you! I'll give this a try 🌱
Oh yay! Found someone else reading discworld in order!
Yey! You too! 🥰 You started filming earlier than myself for it. I hadn't start filming book reviews until a little way on my reading journey so I might need to read the first few again just to review them to complete the playlist 😅 We shall see.
@@RobynWeightman HA HA, Discworld fans are nothing if not completionists 🤣
I need to re-read this one because all I really remember is the vampires realising that they've trained themselves to see religious symbols everywhere. And I might be misremembering that.
They train themselves to not be injured by them. Likewise with Holy Water and Garlic 🤣
Ugh❤ i loveee your review!

Remember, though, Hot Fuzz was 2007 … “How long have you been a policeman-“ “Officer “ “How long have you been a policeman officer.?“ 😅

Thank you 🥰
Winter is my favorite season because of this... 😊
I'd go with the movie pronunciation, I cannot remember which I knew first, probably the book.
The movie pronunciation definitely rolls off the tongue easier 😊 I'm guessing there's a hidden meaning/joke behind the pronunciation in the book 😅
Me lol❤😊
This is very beautifull
cool hoodie and good book
Thank you, I should have put the hood up. It has ears 😂
I really enjoyed this book. It was great for a debut author, tbh I don’t think the showing got in the way 2:53 of the story for me. What did take me out of the story was the unrealistic relationship Elizabeth had with the police, how she got information out of them about an active case…I just couldn’t see that happening in real life. I appreciate though, this isn’t a gritty, realistic crime novel, it’s a cosy fiction, so I should try not to bother about that. Have you read any of the other books in the series? I have the second one reserved at my library and am intrigued to see how Osman develops as an author in the next one.
I don't, my mom has it though. It's currently not a series I enjoyed enough to dip into again, but if I change my mind I will borrow her copy 😊 You're right about it being a cosy read, I tend to go to Japanese translated works for my cosy reads the most. Anything based around coffee shops/cats 😂 But I do have a book of short cosy crime stories on the TBR for next year so maybe that will sway me.
Blackadder was first, mid to late 80s, this was mid 90s.😊
Thank you! So Pratchett may have been a Blackadder Fan :)
@@RobynWeightman most likely, and probably for the time one of the lesser obscure references of his.
Tipatul
I love Terry Pratchett and we own 2 cats so I just bought this book from Amazon here in Australia
Oooo what are your cats names? 🥰 I hope you enjoy the book.
the younger one is a tuxedo named Athena and the older one is a tortoiseshell named Tilly@@RobynWeightman
Lovely names 🥰 Bet they're adorable. Enjoy all their cuddles and mischeviousness 😂 I'm sure you'll give them many a look whilst reading Pratchett's Cat book.
Beautiful
Is it peccadilloes you were having trouble with? Google's breakdown is peh-kuh-di-lowz Hope it helps!😅

@@RobynWeightman no worries, it's been a while since I read the book but it's definitely not a word I use IRL.
Nice
good list!
So spilling 5 buckets of paint on a canvas is art now?
oh my... that looks amazing!
thats not art
I like to plot retrospectively
So I make it look like I knew what I was doing all along when in fact I was improvising
.., @?
I also liked it when I read it a long time ago. Should maybe re-read it again. I remember it as my first encounter with elves as pernicious and semi-godlike. I had maybe seen the midsummer nights dream movie with Kevin Cline and Christian Bale. But Oberon and Titania and the other elves never seemed dangerous or malevolent, just wanting to play a trick or two. But the elves in this book was alike to alien conquerors from sci-fi or the gods from Cabin in the Woods and with a sadistic streak as well.
I recognise one of those jumpers!
I'll have to get the name of the person who made it. Super fluffy and warm! 😜 he he Thank you! 💚
Greebo is not an evil cat he's just a big softie really
Great points. Agreed with all of them.
Thank you! 😊
