Great video! I would love it if you would do one on the Carpenters, their arrangements (not to mention the production) is sublime, IMHO!
@@andriealinsangao613 thanks you! And point taken, thanks for the suggestion! 😊
Bueníssimo! Gracias
@@sergigimenez8633 un placer, gracias a ti por el comentario! :)
I get so angry and frustrated when I see such gems getting so few views while garbage music get millions of views. U are appreciated here bro. I have just purchased swing and swing more. Used them in this project?
Thanks a lot for the kind words, they truly mean a lot. And sure, those two libraries make up +90% of what I used in this arrangement! :)
@@alvarorodriguezfilmmusic Would u fancy a collabo? If so how can I contact you?
@@mayeganfriends6678 I'm quite busy at the moment but sure, hit me up and let's see what we can do! alvarorodriguezfilmmusic@gmail.com
@@alvarorodriguezfilmmusic Awesome.
Thanks for sharing your work and knowledge. Very helpful. Could you show more of the process of building the score with the software ? How you choose which section plays the melody ? How you mark the different sections? From where you start etc.
Sure! I primarily use Logic Pro as my DAW, and for this, I used multiple libraries, with the main ones being Spitfire Symphony Orchestra and Bernard Herrmann Composer Toolkit. In terms of deciding who's playing the melody, I went for something with a timbre that stands out from the rest of the ensemble (in this case, flutes in the first example for that Henry Mancini sound, and an English horn in the second one). But realistically, the melody should be sung anyway-remember that these are song accompaniments. I'm not sure I understand your question about where I start. Could you elaborate a bit? :)
@@alvarorodriguezfilmmusic do you start with thé Melody or with the rythmique section ? Then do you work on the strings, woodwinds brass or all of them simultaneiusly?
@@gijazz1757 Oh alright. First off, it's always melody plus harmony (only plain chord symbols). Once that's clear, I work out the actual arrangement, going through all the decisions I mention in the video (spread voicings, counter-melodies, who plays what, etc.). Finally, at the end, I polish everything up with the rhythmic trio and any other extras I want to include, like a harp, for instance. PS. so yeah, answering your question, when I work out the spreads I decide who plays what simultaneously.
Great video Alvaro ♥
Huge thanks!! :)
Good video! 😊
@@mthornit Huge thanks Marius! 🤗🙏
This is great, going to rewatch and take some notes. Thanks man!
Glad to hear you found it useful! I actually tried to condense a full 4 months course from uni in a 6 min video here!
@@alvarorodriguezfilmmusic I'd say you succeeded :D
@@QBellowMusic Thank you!!
one of my favorites. I'm so simple!
I love that piece too, we both must be so simple then! ☺️
Fantastic. Thank you very much. Would you consider making this Logic session available for learning purposes ?
Thank you! Not sure if I still have it but if I find it absolutely! If you give me your email I can forward it to you no problem 🤘
Very happy to have found your channel. Thank you for all of your videos!! Great work!
Thanks a lot for your comment, it means a lot! 🙌
thank you for the breakdown! this is very clear and straightforward and the results are stunning
Glad to hear it was useful, and thanks a lot for the comment! 🙂
Brilliant video,thanks a ton for doing this!!❤
My pleasure, glad to hear it helps! 😊
Utterly beautiful.
Massive thanks!
Such a amazing piece of art. Love the tempo changes, and those beautiful strings, omg! blew me away. Great work.
Huge thanks for the kind words! 🙏
I love this piece. This is the kind of music I compose myself. I love this!!!!!!!
Thank you so much!!
Great breakdowns, awesome demonstrations on screen, very insightful knowledge too. I just subbed to your channel. Love your content.
thanks a lot mate, I really appreciate it! :)
Wow, you gave some amazing insight here. I love it.
Glad to hear you found it useful! 🙂
The speed of teaching is so fast one can only assume the listening audience already knows what is being taught.
The beauty of video is that you can pause it at any given time and rewatch it as many times as you want! :)
Very nice!
Massive thanks!!
Holy moly, awesome video!

Very melodic!
Thanks a lot!! :)
@@alvarorodriguezfilmmusic I honestly love swing music. You did a very good arrangement. Have you heard about VHorns? They sound even more realistic, you should check them ruclips.net/video/uJ9rmauILK8/видео.html
@@alvarorodriguezfilmmusic I honestly love swing music. Have you heard about VST VHorns by acousticsamples? You should definitely check them out, they sound very realistic. Search for "VHorns big band" here on RUclips.
i don't know why more ppl are not using Tokyo Scoring Strings.. we have attack settings. it has every setting possible it's almost overwhelming. they about to update to TSS 2.0 any day now too, got an email about it last month, just found this video randomly
Haven't had the chance to use them to be fair. Ive certainly listened to some demos and I don't see them having an edge over other libraries in terms of realism 🤷♀️ Having lots of settings can be a double-edged sword. If you are constantly making decisions all the time over everything, to me that library becomes unusable - in that the amount of time you'd have to spend to make it sound good would not be worth it (even if the result is very good). A good library is one that gets you 90% there very quickly and in a very straightforward manner 🤷♀️
Great job on this. Easy to follow, thanks for the "tutorial", much appreciated! Sub'd!
Massive thanks for the support 🙏
Well done, very clear!
Glad it was helpful! 🙏
Grandísimo Álvaro!!👏👏👏
Mil gracias Juan 🙏❤️
Is this inspired by early 60's movie score ?
Hi, not really - not willingly at least ^^'
Wow, great video!
Huge thanks! 🙏🙏
Honestly sounds better than spitfire's demos. I wonder how did you achieved Molto vibrato on some of the FF parts?
Thank you!! I didn't do anything in particular really. When you crank up cc1 the vibrato gets quite intense on its own. Most of the heavy-lifting for me is going over it multiple times and find the exact automation curve that works best: maybe it's something as small as a couple more numbers or maybe bending the curve ever so slightly more. 🤗
Great
Thanks a lot!! 🙏
Amazing video, thanks !
Glad to hear that, Cheers! :)
Muchas gracias - this is rally helpful and clear!

Great analysis - as a violinist Don Juan, especially the opening, is an intense challenge but is always worth the effort!
Thank you, that opening is so common at orchestra's auditions. Really hard to make it sound clean indeed but so beautiful!
I'm the first comment before it goes viral
I wish haha, cheers!
Wonderful work Alvaro! It contrasts a lot with the other cues! Where can I watch the film?
Thanks a lot my friend! 🙏❤️ The film is about to get started touring round the festival circuit so it won't be available until it finishes 🙏
@@alvarorodriguezfilmmusic awesome! Please let me know when it’s available! 🙏🏻
@@VHC90 I surely will 🙏❤️
Very very nice it could be very very nice as well to show us your programming workflow for that king of mock-up
Thanks I'll make sure to include that in the next one! But there's no secrets really. cc1, cc11, vibrato, attack and legato transitions are all the variables I use. And I literally play it by ear to decide what to use and how to use it.
Question here as someone that loves composing and arranging big band music. When recording with Logic, do you use Finale or Sibelius to notate and use the midi to put it into Logic Pro, or just put the notes into the Logic Pro directly?
Hi there! To me Logic always comes first. I only bother with notation software if I need sheet music for something (like a performance or a recording session). And in that case I would always go from Logic to Sibelius and not the other way around. Cheers!
Thanks for the input! Will try that with my big band music! 😀
Well done !
Thanks a lot! 🤗
your tutorials are amazing we need more like them
Thanks a lot, more of them in the on the way! 🙌🙌
Nice! 👍
Thank you! :)
great! how have you input bass and drums?
Thank you! I'm not sure I understand your question. I talk about it here 8:19
@@alvarorodriguezfilmmusicdid your input method: keyboard or some other controller? or just added notes one-and-one in the pianoscroll editor?
@@matswessling6600 oh alright! I basically pllayed it in with a MIDI controller (only once the piano part was fully finished though).
