Photographing Waterbirds | Sony A7IV
My go to location for the Beautiful and colorful Slavonian (Horned) Grebe is brought back to life with the insane heat-wave we have had in Norway for roughly a week now. I could count 4 nesting pairs (!). I have never seen that many here. There is of course also some Golden Eyes, Mallards and frogs! Good to see that the summer is upon us.

The status one week later. Is there a surprise waiting for us? No, unfortunately not. As expected! The only reason I went back so early was because of the loose box. I had to tighten it, and fill it with wood-fibre (or sawdust). I´m going to leave it alone now until spring. So it´s going to be exciting when spring arrives and we can check to see if there´s anything there. Thanks for watching! 📸...

I have a trail-camera mounted in the tree besides, so lets hope for some activity here. To easily go from Stills to Video you don’t need to push on the center button. Say you setup C1 for your Stills customization, then switch through the dedicated Stills|Video|S&Q switch (with its small button on the lever) to the Video mode where you can setup a C1 customization for video. There may be an easier way but this should work since Stills|Video|S&Q mode lever gives each mode its own set if C1-C3. Note: The A7CR and A7CII removed the locking button on the dial and the small button on the lever.
You have a valid point! On my A7IV I have setup 1, 2 snd 3 on the mode dial to video-modes. 1 to 25fps, 2 to 100fps and 3 to 200fps 🙏🏻
@@andersmenge yes but I believe the A7IV has no button on it mode dial and I think , like the A7RV, there are three custom setting for Stills|Video|S&Q each for a total of nine.

for stills I'm very tempted, as a second body to accompany my r5, maybe with the new sigma 500 f5.6!
Which body are you aiming for then? :) I can really recommend the A7IV.
My main cameras are A7RV. I also use a Sony 200-600 G lens. Sometimes with a 1.4x teleconverter. Wish I had an owl on our farm.
That’s my favourite combo! Owl’s are my favourite bird of prey.

the button lock for the mode dial is something I have always hated on "high-end" bodies, my Canon 70D has it and it just adds one more thing that serves no purpose but to piss its user off.
I couldn’t agree more! The programmable mode wheel on this body and my A7IV makes way more sense. I have programmed it to adjust ISO, and it’s handy to lock that in some occasions. Thanks for your comment!

Update almost one year later: The Kingfisher has been seen here again, but it looks it has moved a bit up the river. Further north! I have no idea if it is the same bird, but it makes sense. Been here a couple of times this summer, but no sightings what so ever.

Thank you! Appreciate that 🙏🏻 Well yes, but you should be approx 50m from thr lake. So I think we were a bit close in this video. But I recommend to follow the trail even further in. There is a beautiful moraine-beach at the other side of the lake which is large and much more comfortable to lay on 😊 Hope you have a good trip!!

That's some awesome photos! I remember one time when I was hiking down to Vøringfossen and I was sooo scared to walk on the slippery rocks haha!
Yeah! We did this route back in 2020, and we finally found the time to go back. Those rocks at Vøringsfossen is so scary 😂 But well worth it though! Unfortunately the bridge crossing the river was closed..

@andersmenge well I'm looking to purchase this as an aspiring videographer, but know it has the hybrid capability for photos as you proved in the vid as well. So just general use would be ok too 👍🏻
@@BloodSoldierRB Ok! Well, I upgraded from the A7iii, and it was game-changing for me. The A7iii is still a really good camera, but it is missing a few features. Still use both to this day though. I will see if I can put up a video of it 😊 Thanks for your comments!
