with Rev. Meredith Garmon New Year's resolutions are famously short-lived. Still, it's helpful to reflect on what changes you want to make. It helps to put those changes in the context of the overall purpose of your life. Which begs the question: What is the overall purpose of your life?

with Rev. Meredith Garmon The living tradition we share draws from many sources. One of them, explicit in the UUA bylaws adopted in 1985, is: "Humanist teachings which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason ad the results of science, and warn us against idolatries of mind a spirit." We'll celebrate our humanist heritage, exploring especially this warning against idolatry.

Service November 3rd 2024, Día De Los Muertos

with Meredith Garmon Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a festive celebration in memory of those who have died. Its origins in Mesoamerica go back over 3000 years, even though it was shaped by two Roman Catholic holidays: All Saints Day (November 1) and All Souls Day (November 2). We will honor this tradition and reflect on the loved ones who are no longer with us.

You will be missed rev. Steve
My therapist shared this with me following my session with her yesterday.
Yes❣️🙏May it be so. Only love … only love is the remedy
Beautiful rendition.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is a church that stands for all religious beliefs? Doesn’t that directly contradict any kind of faith. How can one claim to have faith in something yet not stand firm in it?
For me, I just like learning about multiple religions, to see how I can improve myself, understand others, etc. It's just interesting and entertaining too!
What a bunch of crooks
Do you feel stupid now?
You people are stupid
Who put this together?

This may be the best sermon I've ever heard.
I love how Birch so eloquently shared their words with the youngins! I wish I didn't have to wait until I was midway through college (and pay) to learn about the spectrum of our genders and sexualities... The sooner these topics are taught to children, the less stigmatized they become -- and less confusion and upset will surround kids who don't fit traditional or common molds by learning they're not the only ones - and that it's totally okay to be different! I enjoyed Louise's words as well. Unapologetically powerful and sensible message! The bells are always so uplifting and fun to take in!
Wow! Such beautiful music and a touching sermon. So proud to be a part of a church that takes Black history seriously instead of barely touching on it, if at all.
Thanks for listening!
Ha, this sermon came at a perfect time! Last week, I tried to read the Holy Bible cover-to-cover in honor of my grandparents, but I stopped 20 pages in, because most of it was complete nonsense - morally and realistically. Looking forward to this Jefferson Bible!
Loved this sermon, as money was frequently an issue for my family growing up in a broken home. In my adulthood, CPTSD made it hard to hold down a job due to stress/burnout, so I often prioritize money above health (i.e. never buying organic). Wish Andrew Yang was president, so we all got $1k/month (UBI). For anyone reading this who on a shoestring, I recommend lentils. I eat them almost daily and never tire of them by adding cheap salsa, pasta sauce, bbq sauce, teriyaki sauce, etc. Expensive sauces obviously taste better, but it doesn't take long to adapt/re-adapt to the cheapest varieties. Also, bananas are a healthy, cheap fruit. Thanks for the Peter Singer suggestion. I only know him from his ominous quote, "We are, quite literally, gambling with the future of our planet - for the sake of hamburgers." Will check out his book you mentioned. Bless your heart for your clothing choices/donations. Sad that fast fashion is even a thing.
I loved every second of this! It's been nice getting to know you and enjoy your sense of humor and words of wisdom! Your sermon a few months back about how harmful it can be on us to not let go still pops in my head. It's so hard knowing the truth and practicing it, but I'll get there eventually, God willing!
I feel like this sermon was written by Garfield, the king of naps. I'll sleep to that!
This whole happy and unexpected concert is a beautiful gift, whether at holiday time or in mid-August. The photography is beautiful, too.
Thank you for a great history lesson, Rev. Amy, for an inclusive and tolerant message. It gave.me a sense of hope.
Thank you, Karen. Your comments and public vulnerability is much appreciated. Frank Thomas
I just found your church and am pretty excited to watch this. I’m going to have to play it on my computer to see all of your faces. It took me a min to find who was talking ❤️
This was great. I certainly learned a lot of great things that I wish I had known when I created my UU advent calendar. Loved the team leading worship.
WOW!!.. Knowledge it's POWER!!... GRACIAS!... Greetings from Unitarian Fellowship of Houston!:-)
i am trying to contact the right linda lemon who was a Emt in the late 1970
a brave sermon
Thank you, Erin, for a powerful and healing service.
What IS ahe babbling on about? what does this have to do with the 8,000-9,000 blacks that slaughter each other every year in the country? "Whiteness"? Boy does she need a brain transplant.
I am sorry that I had to miss this service. Your sermon brought me to tears. Thank you.

For the service we edited out the bathroom humor :-)
Thanks for a great sermon. Gretchen's facebook post led me here.
Anson, I am so proud of what a brilliant, articulate job you did with this sermon. What a special gift you have, and what a gift this sermon is to the church and larger community!
This is great Anson!
AWESOME! We are planning on changing the whole focus of our Agnostic Freethought home group towards this style of Agnosticism. I am sooo excited! I have wanted this for a long time (after my de-conversion from Christianity in 2011), and have finally got our home group (started in 2012) on board with it. This video will be a MUST show at one of our next meetings! Thanks so much for posting this...please post MORE!!!!
Beautiful
My apologies for the repeated mispronunciation of amygdala -- [ə-ˈmig-də-lə] Hopefully hearing me mangle that word in this video does not raise your anxiety too much :-)
Linda, I absolutely love to listen to you speak. I enjoy your views and the flow of your voice! I have seen you in person many times and I always enjoy listening. I find this topic stimulating, and this is the exact way I feel about attending in person. I appreciate the message and the music and meditation, I cry every week because my spirit is always touched......HOWEVER I have not attended in person since June of 2014 (I began attending the church the very first weekend of January 2014 shortly after moving to Des Moines) My family and I helped with the gardens and maze outside, I have attended a few of the Pagan events as well.......the trouble being that while I really love the message & linger after each service I feel a great lack of true welcoming from the members. I quit attending the services because not only I, but my family didn't feel like we were a part of a community. We would leave feeling like we were not becoming a part of a community even after a half of a year of faithful attendance. I have since attended another church, and while their church family was completely welcoming and very easy to chat with and made us all feel welcome and appreciated, the other church service is built on a foundation of Christianity and that doesn't make my soul sing. :( I hope that through your words we can all be more welcoming and accepting of others!! :)
