The Strike of 1894 by the late Dennis O'Keeffe. This is the story of the great unionist Billy McLean. Billy is a much revered son of Western Victoria. Mr McLean left Koroit in 1891 to work as a shearer in New South Wales and was shot in an altercation with non-union labourers during a strike at Grassmere Station in 1894. This is my first time hearing this song by him, my goodness what a talent
This one gave me chills from Mickey's first note.❤❤❤❤❤
What a find! Thank you for posting this gem.
This is my favourite song mark antonym doolan only one to shear the proper narwo gear
I love this song and Mickeys' rendition of it. No one sings a sad love song better than Mickey Newbury. I would love for him to sing more of the time with his lovely eyes open and looking at us.
Beautiful sentiment and I couldn't agree more!
I should say, Mickey wrote it originally, so his "rendition" is the original - not sure if you knew this, but otherwise I agree
I was given Mabel Frisco joy and I started dating Fred. That was on 14th February 1973. We played it every day, many many times. We fell deeply in love to his music and married on the 20th December 1973. We celebrated our Golden Wedding Anniversary last and continue to be deeply in love. Thank you, Mickey Newbury. Xx
Just look what clear minds can do for the next generation.lovely.❤
privilege to have these world artists in Terang Victoria Australia ,
No version of the American Trilogy comes close to Mickey's. So unpretentious, honest, beautiful and deeply moving.
The best....
Wow❤ Elvis is renowned for his cover of this beautiful medley. However, Andy Williams’ rendition is phenomenal.
prachtige stem en artist !!!
Thanks for posting this . Simply brilliant
I came across Mickey about 2 years ago while watching a show on TV...Sweet Memories was playing, but I didn't know who was singing. I Shazam'd it, and here pops up Mickey Newbury, who I came to learn wrote and composed the song, which Andy Williams later popularized. I'm 37, play a few instruments and enjoy discovering music of all genres. Often, I try to seek out the obscure, but I'd never heard of Mickey Newbury (not to say he was necessarily obscure). Needless to say, compelled by his sound, his voice, and the raw emotion of his songs, I went down the rabbit hole reading about his life and listening to his music. I don't know how Mickey flew under the radar for me all these years...but I sure am happy I found his music. RIP, to the one of the greats of the music world who deserved more recognition than he ever received. Thank you for posting this video, too. There isn't much out there I've come to discover.
Have long appreciated Mickey and couldn’t figure out why he wasn’t more widely known. Besides his playing and singing, his songwriting was amazing, his songs evoked such emotion. He was a master at using metaphors and similes.
That’s kinda how I found him I was looking up different artist for She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye when I found him I was 8:54 totally delighted. I listen to him probably every day now. He pops up on my playlists now. Can’t believe I never heard about him before
Brilliant. What a find.
You are the king, how do you find these treasures? Really, I don't want to know, but please send more if you can. Gracias
Prime Newbury...R.I.P Mickey.
Tack en grym artist!

Absolutely fantastic!!!
Im so glad I got to see him perform in a small bar. One of a kind artist.
Yes thx Micky has been long forgotten but not by me
✊
You are the MVP for posting this, thank you!
great , did he also sing happy songs ? I'll have a look ,
Not really - mostly sad songs.
His songs came from a place of deep emotion, and pain.. While some have chided him for only doing "sad" songs..hey, they are real, raw, and authentic, and *I* for one have always been a fan (since the late 70's)
Gone to Alabama , how I love them old songs
Thank you so much for posting this gem, I haven’t seen it before. Mickey Newbury is the finest singer/songwriter I have ever heard. It breaks my heart that he is no longer with us.
I agree Sandra - he was without a doubt the finest singer songwriter ever.
Glad you enjoyed the clip
🙏
Mickey Newbury is The Best ❤
