Honda Ridgeline 06. Engine knock
I have adjusted my valves, but i still have this knocking sound coming from the front of the engine. Around cyl 4 i think.
You can hear the valvetrain ticking away as it should, but there is a slower, harder knock that seams to follow one of the cylinders.
Could i have a damaged valve maby?
Does anybody know what could cause this?

I just got my new antenna! It is the Chameleon MPAS First thing i do is to take it apart! (of course) and this is a on the fly comparison of the two transformers. The Chameleon is held together with screws so it is no big problem getting into it. You can hear the spindle bearings. and they don't sound to good.. but this proves you can upgrade a SX3 to a 2.2KW spindle motor! The Chinese electronics don't like to be operated like this, so the controller stops at random, but my goal is to ditch that and use the KFlop to control the motor driver.

    Honestly. Yeah, the Alpha seems like its "Mil-Spec". Lol. (Mil-Spec = Built by lowest bidder) ... Yes, i know that's not true for all military items, and there are some good Military Specifications, but thought it would be a funny line. But the Chameleon design seems to be better.

    Question, is the black body of the Hybrid Micro plastic or metal? I would think stray capacitance would be picked up from the body if it was a metal body. Every unun I have looked at is always in a plastic box. This got me thinking when I saw your very good video on the comparison. I would be very interested in your comments as I am constructing my unun .cheers vk2jcc

    Pretty much all of these year range J35 engines do this eventually, and from my experience they will run forever with it. Both Pilot engines I've had have done it upon cold start and the noise is largely gone when warmed up.

    The first HF antenna I got was a AlphaAntenna Promaster 1080 and it uses the exact same unun found in the Comet CHA250b... The only different part of the antenna is how the wire antenna is added with a counterpoise, they claim it act similarly like a off centered dipole... the core base of the antenna regardless is the unun which is exactly the same as the commercial antennas... I think many antennas are based on that copied system... I think the only other vertical with a matching unit that uses a different matching is the Diamond BB7V, there is a bank of resistors with a tiny core transformer, way different than the CHA250b. Still they are lossy matching units that render the antenna not performing really well. Again, those unun in your video are copyed from the Comet CHA25b design.

I have canged both headgaskets, and while the heads was off, i checked the cams and all the valves (checked for sealing, and bent stems, but nothing wrong) I just can’t find anything wrong. The last 2 things i would like to change is the balance wheel and both timing belt tensioning devices. But at this point i don’t care anymore. It is running just fine with the sound, i get good milage and if it dies i will get a swap engine and that is it for me. 🙂

    That's disgusting! I mean seriously people lay out good money for a product they expect to be built properly and what alpha put out was pure rubbish, the type of thing anyone could build for a few bucks in a few hours of messing around and still do a better job. Im not saying the parts they chose are bad (well maybe the wire could have been better) but its the construction that is just nasty. I see alpha has upgraded the look of the balun/unun what ever it is and I hope they took note and steped up their QC.

      OMAR VALDEZ Thanks for replying to my video. I have changed the timing belt and tensioner not too long ago due to milage. Could it be that sound is coming from a brand new OEM part?

    • @omarvaldez00
      @omarvaldez00 7 лет назад

      steinhest No problem. It can. The way I found out that it wasn't piston # 3 or the rod knocking like you read in the comments/forums was that when I rev the engine between 3500-5000 rpm's the noise went way. I also replaced the regular tensioner about the 100,000 mark. If you haven't changed the hydraulic tensioner than that would be the first place I would look at.

    • @steinhest
      @steinhest 7 лет назад

      OMAR VALDEZ I have done a power balance test by disconnecting separate coilpacks and injectors and it does not change the sound. increasing RPM makes the sound go 95% away, and a real good and warm enginge makes it go almoast away also. I had disregarded the tensioner due to the nature of the sound, since it sounds like it is following just one point in the cranks rotation.. and the tensioner would be folowing the pulses coming from the oilpump (4 per rotation)

    I wanted to get on the air as quick as i could (even though I intend to make my own antenna's and experiement a bunch next year) and have been really happy so far with my Chameleon EMCOMM II I picked up based on it not needing a tuner and being able to mount it just outside the window of my "shack" (spare bedroom). I have plenty of room for big antennas but probably still wouldn't have one up yet (I bought everything over thanksgiving holiday) so again, I'm glad I got the EMCOMM. Once I install a better antenna setup I'll packup the EMCOMM and use it for portable stuff since it's quite small and would make a great portable setup.
