Whitetail Deer Hunting, Habitat Improvement, Food Plots, Fishing, Wisconsin.
I started bow hunting and gun hunting Whitetail deer in 1983. I’ve done numerous habitat improvement projects on multiple different properties. I’ve created some really good food plots and I’ve also had some fail but I strive to always learn and improve. I love learning from others and love sharing what I’ve learned.
I love anything outdoors, hunting fishing, ATVs, UTVs, Motorcycles, hiking, sailing, and on and on.

Great video. Thanks for sharing.
I use boiling water after I empty it out 2 min my barrel is bone dry
I put a cable stop on mine.
Why not hook the winch hook directly to the plow instead of using that metal extender? Then you can raise the plow higher.
@@AV8R_1 I could use a shorter extender. The hole in the plow itself is not conducive to connecting directly to it.
@@steffenoutdoorswi yeah I saw that after my comment. You could grab a heavy duty carabiner and hook to that. I have a WARN plow on my General, and it came with a little bit similar hook up. I ended up getting a single pulley that had a hook attached. I hook it to the plow, run the cable through the pulley and back up to the bumper. This does three things: It allows the plow to be raised about twice as high as before so you can pile snow higher, it reduces the strain on the winch line, effectively halving the force needed to lift the plow and snow, and it slows the plow lifting and lowering speed by half, making smaller height adjustments possible. I'm actually getting the Polaris plow on my XD 1500 ranger, so I will have to make some of these modifications again. Good luck! Thanks for the video!
I'll have to try the soap thing. Bucks love lateral scaffolding branches for rubbing. I put fencing around the main trunk but they couldn't resist the branches. They can do a ton of damage in mere minutes. My fruit trees are so big now that I'm up to 30ft of fencing around the larger trees.
@@harleytrumbo633 6-8 feet of fence is plenty when you use soap. I keep the fence on To protect from tree rubs.
There is no reason to remove that screw where you're in you put the percussion nipple firing cap at do not remove that damn screw it is made to stay in there you dumb m*********** because if anything happens that will blow that thing out and get yourself hurt this is why I don't ascribe to your goddamn channel because you're a f****** idiot do not remove that screw if you do there will be consequences that you may not know that keeps it from blowing up in your f****** face c*********
Wow ! U r fast !
Nice video, Everyone has a different way of cleaning but with the same result
An update...My cherry and apple trees are Full of flowers. I bought the Irish Spring but have been reading a lot about pine scent being a bear deterrent. I think I'm going to buy Grandpa's Pine Tar bar soap. Amazon sells 8 bars in 1 order. From what I've read, I think the Irish Spring works for deer. Also read that dryer sheets (certain brands) work for mice. Interesting. BTW I saved the netting that holds the onions and lemons and will use that to hang the soap. I'll let you know! Wish me luck!
Interesting.
I gotta QUESTION Sir? Do you dry the breach and Bore before you you fire this weapon. Do you oil it? Before you prime it? And The last question, does it have a 3/4" rifling? Does it have a dead zero SCOPE ON IT LIKE MY REMINGTON .30/06? NO SIR! SOAP AND WATER IS GOING TO FUCK UP THE BREACH,USE MINERAL OIL! IT CLEANS BETTER AND SHARPENS YOUR BAYONET/K-BAR! I GOTTA QUESTION? ARE WE RESTORING THIS WEAPON OR USING IT IN A COMBAT SITUATION? BE ADVISED... YOU GOTTA DO THE SAME THING. WHETHER IN COMBAT, OR PEACE TIME.
No scope. It’s dried thoroughly after cleaning. Oil it with bore butter. Bayonet? No bayonet on it. It’s just for hunting…
My trees are about 20 years old. I live next to the Appalachian Trail-the woods. The electric company did some work on the neighboring property and since then the bears have changed route and now come across my property and have found my fruit trees on the way. I will try the soap idea. Hopefully it will work! Will advise-Cherries come out in June, Thanks again!
Let me know if it works for the bears! A few trees that I just stopped using soap on got branches broken by bears. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence or not. I had cameras out so I I know it’s bears that did the damage.
@@steffenoutdoorswi I will. I'll be doing that next week but the cherries are the first fruit to ripen and that's in June. Actually going out this morning to get Irish Spring soap. Wish me Luck; it'll be the first time I enjoy them in 2 years. I'll be back in about 6 weeks...
How to keep bear from eating my cherries and apples? Does the soap trick work for bears also? Thank you for your videos!
I have had bears break branches of apple trees, but they did not have soap on them. They have not touched (yet) those that do have soap on them. Once my trees get large enough, I don’t use the soap anymore. I’d say the first 5-7 years or so I make sure to keep soap hanging on them.
How to keep bear from eating my cherries and apples? Does the soap trick work for bears also? Thank you for your videos!
I just want to report that for the First Time in Years! My cherry tree is full of cherries that have not been eaten! I do have to say that I think squirrels or maybe insects? are eating a little of the bottom branches but the top branches are full. Next time I will put the Irish Spring and the Grandpa Pine soap (don't remember the actual name but something like that!) and maybe that will work for every critter that's thinking it's suppertime! Thanks for making me think of this trick!
Never get bored cleaning muzzleloars just lovemy hawken 54 that's awesome a awesome job turn to get better myself
hello do you shoot patched round balls? what ball diameter do you use? 0.490? or 0.495? the rifling on your barrel is shallow right? it's hard to do accuracy with round balls.
.490 with a patch. I’m solid out to 80 yards. My eyes start to fail me after that. Not sure about the rifle.
@@steffenoutdoorswi ok thanks for your response
This fellow needs to understand about hunting in the wilds for 15 days !!! No ketchen sink , etc. In the 1830's men knew much better !!!
Gun powder didn’t come in plastic bottles either!😅
Does a heck of a job on 2” of fresh powder.
Paul, It does a heck of a job of 10” of fresh powder too!
@@steffenoutdoorswi does it work in a heavy wet snow?
@@jtltet 8-10 inches of heavy wet yes. After that I usually bring out the tractor because I can clean the driveway but not wide enough for the next storm. The tractor helps me move the banks out so there’s room for the next storms snow piles.
The barrel wedge on a Hawkin was always inserted left to right, it was part of their "signature" they were the only makers that did that. TC didn't care.
Yup, every 50 seconds if you are good and quick, I just hope my cap doesn't hang.
Add some grain to your clover plot .It will stay green after the clover gets beat back with cold weather .
Why not drain the sink and refill in between to avoid continuously drawing dirty water into the barrel..
bruh, the music. Makes me wanna go plow even there isnt any snow.
After drying out your bore with patches, I use a hairdryer down the bore to dry and heat up the bore before I put my preservative in it.
Sounds like a good idea! Thanks!
I wash the barrel with very hot water. I wait a moment for the water to evaporate and then I immediately apply patches lubricated with engine oil to prevent rust.
@@DanielGerardoAlonso yep. Good method!
Nicely done..here’s the biggest piece of advice that I have..if the wife’s home take a bucket w hot water and do this in the garage /outsde ….i actually boil water and use a bucket, gloves to protect my hands , I use an air compressor to dry the barrel , the rest of my procedure is pretty identical to yours, I do use nipple grease on the nipple threads , bore butter I’m sure is just as good
fit in a large washer so the hook end snugs washer up against rollers.
No doubt deer snow makes it tough on wildlife. Ice is even worse. Looks like their still finding food but your winter has a ways to go 😮
Correct. Hopefull they’ll find good food this winter.
Why do non of these videos show up to removed the hook breech it’s driving me insane
I showed everything I do. That’s it.
@@steffenoutdoorswi so you leave the breech on ? And just take the screw out of the drum. I’m still new to these rifles
@@theslayer9164 that’s what I do , yes.
Hi there, what is the name for the 50 cal ball/patch speed loader? I’m not having any luck googling it. Thanks
I have powder, cap, ball and patch in what is referred to as a speed loader or pre-load. I typically use a ball starter after that to get the ball 4-5” into the barrel.
Do you have a v a g i n a ? You just seem like you have a beefy one by your videos.
Would be nice if you listed the equipment used in the video as well as the supply source...
It’s all Polaris parts. The plow and hydraulics and the general 1000 deluxe were all bought from Powersports of Abrams. Wisconsin, 15 minutes north of Green Bay.
I look up a bunch of these videos and always find it soothing. As a car guy, I would rather listen to the music from the engine than actual music, but that's just me. I'm looking to buy a SxS myself. Can you tell me what wheels and tires you have on yours as well as their sizes? I absolutely love the look of them. They look like they belong on a HUMVEE. Living in eastern Canada, we can get some massive snowstorms, sometimes one after another. I would eventually like to match my SxS with a Bercomac snowblower on wheels.
I have 2 sets of tires, off-road and road tires. I’ll have to get the tire specs and get back to you. I’m just west of Green Bay Wisconsin so don’t get the storms like east of here but we do get plenty of snow.
Subscribed because of this. Thanks for sharing this info, and the comment section was friendly and helpful as well
If you had ride command it comes with "plow mode" and he's sets for up down back drag and everything you can think of so u don't need the pink stuff
Interesting! Thank you!
Good video, use more water in sink so the water is drawn up thru nipple hole and flushed out.
When did you plant and did you prune every year
The first trees I planted in 2008, but I add new ones in different places every other year. I have trees in 6 different areas at the moment. The deer have been eating the apples for about a month now.
I was gifted a TC White Mountain Carbine and have been learning as much as I can before early deer season arrives. I didn’t know you could use lubed patches for your shots. I’ll have to try that when I take mine to the range. Thanks for the video.
Oh, always use lubed patches. After 4/5 shots at the range, you’ll want to clean/scrub it good because the buildup will affect your trajectory. Lube is your friend. Don’t plug your nipple with lube though, lol.
What’s the name of the red preload containers? Thank you!
How much pyrodex do I use in cva hawken 50 shooting great plains load by Hornady
I use 70 grains in my Traditions 50 cal
Dzioby na twarzy masz po kapiszonach czy pazurach ślubnej gdy jej zapaskudziłeś kuchnię i jadalnię?
I can still hear my wife yelling at me for using her favorite pot to clean my muzzleloader, I would use boiling hot water from the stove. The barrel will dry lot faster and no rust
I just pulled mine out after 5 years of neglect. I love mine. Built it from a kit when I was 16 years old. She is still in great shape. Thanks for the video.
Constructive comment; - No music is better...way better.
use a nylon bush and don't get the copper brush stuck
How many grains of powder do you load? I have never loaded mine hotter than 100 grains with the same powder you're using. It seems to be a good amount for me. Just wondering if you ever loaded it hotter than that.
70 for me. Works great with round balls.
@@steffenoutdoorswi I know it depends on the powder too. I use big minie balls I pour myself. Thanks for the info.
Couldn’t you have gotten the barrel even cleaner if you had removed the breech plug?
Yes
Not a good idea to remove it unless necessary.
Did you ever lose a patch inside as you were pulling the ram rod out? Also I have old powder compacted at the base so no fire gets through, how do you break that up?
I haven’t lost a patch but if I did , there’s a tool that can retrieve it. I clean the nipple every time I clean it and there is a screw on the side that I can remove that would allow me to get a small metal pick in to scrape it out, but I haven’t had to do that.
For the hard powder try soaking it in hoppes or Balistol for a few days and run boiling water over it at the end
Use a breech scraper and a powder pocket scraper. Usually 36 cal will clean out the powder pocket. Also its not necessary to remove the bolster screw for cleaning. Its actually part of the manufacturing process to be there. Serves no purpose after its been machined for the nipple threads. Everyone butchers these frail little screws for no reason.
Use the KFI plow lift point bracket to reduce the cable angle. It raises the the cable hitch point to a much more neutral angle! 100% switch over to synthetic rope and use the rope fairlead. This should help you out….
Thanks!
When I was your son's age I had to shovel a 350' driveway with way more snow than that and walk to school 4 miles up hill and back home up hill. 👍
Most IMPORTANT tip of all. If you' re going to do this in what is obviously your dining room or kitchen make sure your wife won't t come home before you finish!
After the days hunt and you don’t shoot. Do you remove lead and powder or do you just remove the percussion cap and use that charge and ball the rest of the season?
I just remove the cap. The charge is dry and good.
Thanks. Just got back from a day with the Hawkin
