Totally agree with everything you said. I’ll also add that the hours are not structured or ethical. Clients will ask you to show up at the crack of dawn because they have an event to go to or an airplane to catch early in the day and they’ll also ask you to work overtime and stay past closing hours for them. There’s been so many instances where I’ve left the salon at 9:30 at night and have had to commute an hour back home, only to show up back at the salon at 9 am the next morning.

Its just way ridiculous nowadays especially you have to be a therapist, videographer, photographer , tik tok’er .. etc.. you have to look your best all the time and compete with everyone else in the biz, its a cut throat biz! I paid 20K for my program it did not prepare me for anything I’ve experienced in the last 15 years as a cosmetologist..too much work..and yes People really suck and yes its always someone driving a bentley or maserati in my area..I’m much happier NOW since I went back to working my Nights at the Hospital.

Glad you spoke on this. I can relate. Especially in more high end salon, the people were the worst. They are so entitled and don't even show decency as youre doing their hair service.

Been doing hair for 31 years. I have to say,, it never gets easier...only harder. Even the clients who tell you they love you, shower you with Christmas gifts and praise your work will stab you in the back the moment you are sick, need time off or can't fit them in. I am currently looking for a way to get out of this, its hard because now my body feels wrecked . I have no energy left to take care of me.

Thank you for sharing your story. I also recently quit my hair career of 3 years. I just felt like the money was not there for me and I had been in 7 different salons environment and 5 out of 7 of them are very toxic. It makes me sad thinking that you join a salon and you expect everyone to respect together and get along but no, they would rather trash one another. I also lost the passion for it as well. I don't know if you feel this way too but as of right now, i feel ashame and a failure for quitting hair. I got my certification and license and I am not doing it anymore. I don't know how to get rid of the shame that I am feeling.

I was a hairdresser for many years and left due to having breast cancer and lymph node removal which affected my arm. I was out of hairdressing for quite a few years then went back into it at the age of 54, I'm nearly 56 now and I can honestly say I am absolutely wrecked with it and need to step back out of it, its changed a lot over the years, the physical and mental demands have taken their toll on me, hairdressing is a rewarding but stressful job

I totally agree. 1. Don't make me pay for a discount code. 2. value my contribution to promoting your brand. lol this has been a pet peeve of mine for a long time! Partner with a brand with a solid compensation plan, that values the work you put in!
