    Great interview, full of truths... But he's really wrong about martial arts! The problem is not "modern vs traditional" but "commercial/money driven vs learning a new art", which also comes down to the teacher and the student (and the school/gym/dojo/...). Hell, he talks about karate kid and you can see in it that two dojos can produce two different kinds of fighters (and the new series shows that you can be a bully in a capitalist society even if you were a victim before). The karate kid era is also the McDojo era of commercial, mall places where you could get a black belt in a year or so without having learned anything substantial. I've met many "traditional martial artists" who were assholes, arrogant and bullies because the sensei is so omnipotent (almost like a guru), they never test their art in a real fight and they think they're better than the common man. On the other hand, you've got so many humble coaches and students in BJJ/Muay thai/boxing/... classes, and so many arrogant people who were humblED by just getting beaten up by smaller yet stronger students and learning to respect others, the teacher, their fellow students and the discipline required to learn a new art. You don't need a rigid hierarchy to have a good philosophy. It's a lot of phantasy too, because there was a lot of abuse in old TMA schools as well and all of that stuff from cinemas helped these frauds continue their abuse and lies because it was envelopped in a kind of mystical, oriental, "mysterious" fog.

    Maybe I missed it but can we please keep mixing songs into each other with no breaks out of the partner dance world? It’s just not a good fit and I feel like DJs are having technical skill competitions with each other at the cost of the dance scene.

    So true about the struggle of being a new lead. I tell new male leads to not even social dance until you have gone to 2 - 4 months of classes. I've seen too many guys take a few classes then go to a social, get their egos crushed when barely any follows will dance with them and then quit completely. Social dancing is fun but there is no need to rush into it, especially for newly learning leads. If you practice enough and go to classes, you wlll eventually become good to the point that follows will ask you to socials. If follows in class arent asking you to go to socials, its a sign you need to practice more. Too many new leads quit because they want to social dance more than they want to go to class and practice.

    @Beto look into West Coast Swing strictly competitions it's a good framework for what could be done with Bachata and Salsa. A follow and a lead will enter the competition paired together and be judged on their skills and capabilities together throughout the different rounds. They also have a point system so you progress and earn points you can identify who is a newcomer, novice, intermediate, all- star and pro/ champion. That being said, I appreciate the flexibility around bachata and salsa, because it's less codified. If I wanted to be "judged" I would have leaned into the ballroom scene where everything is very clearly defined.

    My impressions 12:00 As a science teacher and hobbist dancer, hearing this guy speaking about teaching is like hearing a madman. The karate teacher slapping students in the general direction. Taking two years to get the Aha! moment. This guy thinks that everybody wants to feel like a shaolin monk living the learning life. Most people just want to dance, enjoy and look cooler.

    • @Sephiroth0232
      @Sephiroth0232 Год назад

      That's interesting, for me getting the Aha! moment by feeling the rhythm on basic steps instead of just counting the music was very rewarding, it didn't feel mechanical anymore, I think you might be assuming that he's trying to convert everyone to his philosophy. I feel like he's just speaking for people who are open to his mentality and do look for what he's sharing, neither are wrong or right, it's up to everyone to do what they like..

    • @sauceros
      @sauceros 11 месяцев назад

      We agree that most people just want to look cooler at first, but dance is much deeper than that. To look cool, we have to question what "cool" means and where the idea comes from, if we don't we end up not developing a deep connection with dance. This podcast is for those who seek something deeper, something meaningful and fulfilling, it's not for everyone. The majority of people are not ready to understand these concepts and that's okay, but that doesn't mean that it makes the man a madman. Frankie's philosophy might sound outlandish and a bit outdated, but the intention that Frankie has is one that not many teachers have and lack, and it's something we enjoyed putting out for the public to see. I myself benefited a lot from this conversation and found it to be one of the most meaningful conversations I've had.

    the multiple dances behavior is often reinforced by the DJing. zouk and kizomba DJs often blend their songs much more seamlessly than salsa or bachata. there's an obvious stopping point for salsa/bachata sets.

      It's not even about anything either. 25 minutes in and all I've heard is an old man complain about how music nowadays isn't "worth s**t", kids don't respect their elders, and dancers want everything spoonfed. I love the man's dancing but his philosophy is blithering nonsense. He seems to believe salsa and dance are the axis around which all must turn.

Clubbing feels like being fresh meat in a den of hungry tigers 🤣 And if you go and you're sober you see how messy everyone is being feels super dystopian.
