I'm with you. I want to believe Young Griff really is Aegon. But my heart also hurts for the baby that was killed in his place...and the parents of that child. I'm also looking forward to finding out what Jon's Targaryen name really will be! I absolutely think there's enough book left to finish the story. I mean, each of the books has been about 1100 pages, so that means George likely has at least 2200 pages to finish the full story.

If he's Faegon, I think it's possible that he's been raised to believe he actually IS Aegon, son of Elia and Rhaegor.

The question is, will we ever actually find out. Come on George, get to writing PLEASE!

I think he’s not a Targaryen and not a Blackfyre. I think he’s probably a lowborn commoner with the competence, attitude and popularity to govern well. The mummer’s dragon with crowd support. I just don’t think George would repeat all these tropes a third or fourth time in his writing. Do we need ANOTHER secret Targaryen survivor of the rebellion? Do we need to see a Blackfyre rebellion play out a SIXTH time? Is he really going to go back to baby swapping once AGAIN for this plot line? If so I think that’s startlingly bad writing for George for a character introduced so late in the game. I think he’s George’s meritocracy insert. The person Westeros would choose if it was a democracy. No nobility. No royal blood. Just raw talent. So…he’s probably doomed to die

BEFORE reading the books, there are about 100 short stories, so before reading "On Basilisk Station," start reading "World of Weber." Read ' Beautiful Friendship now a group of 3 books 500 years before Honor. Also, read "Ms. Midshipwoman Harrington" about the first time Horror was in space and saved everyone. (NOTE: people in this short story come back later in the books) hipper space was discovered in 2015 and became year one in the Harrington Universe. I read one time that the battle scenes are made to be like old sailing battles. You can see your combatants 9 hours before the fight. Surprising others is hard if you are there 9 hours before.

I don't think he's Aegon for one simple reason: that would water down Daenery's entire storyline built along five books, all in favor of a character that just showed up in the story, with whom readers don't have any type of emotional connection. It doesn't make a lot of sense from a writing pov. If there's another Targaryen, specially one with a better claim do the throne, then Daenery's is automatically less important, she's not the last one, she's not as special, her much expected arrival in Westeros will lose a lot of impact. I don't see how that would make the story better, specially when there's only two books left and a lot of other things to resolve.

Don’t forget about Fake Arya Stark (Jeyne Poole). Tywin Lannister knew she was not Arya Stark, yet knowingly kept that secret when sending her to the Boltons.

Since they established in Season 1 that she could cause the rock to tremor with her singing, I thought it was a bit strange that they didn't have her cause a cave-in to block the passage.

I don't think she summons bats, I think she might have woke them up. I thought the scene was hilarious.😂

I think this is such a niche thing it's not exactly a surprise that the writers missed it when they missed/ignored much bigger things already.

I'm not the biggest Tolkien lore nerd, but from what I understood from the show, she didn't "summon bats to do her bidding". She can hear everything inside the mountain, so she knew the bats were there, all she did was scream to wake them up and they flew out of the cave, scaring the dwarves. I dont think she was controlling them in any way more than that.

Not sure if she is an Evil character but it's Evil for the show for sure. Second most irritating character after Galadriel.

That's interesting, I wasn't aware of the symbolism of bats in Tolkien's lore. From what I've heard, this show actually gets more things wrong than right...

I know I'm really late but I've gone down the rabbit hole of your rings of power videos cause there's a new season in progress, and it's all been on my mind. Personally, I don't think the show is the greatest thing ever, but I"ve enjoyed it more than not. It's been cool to hear you give the opposite perspective because I've found that you can be critical without being negative (if that distinction makes sense) it's too rare to find someone like you who can talk about why something like this isn't working for you, without devolving into recreational outrage. You seem to have been less active with your RUclips channel of late, but on the off chance you see this, here's one guy letting you know that I wouldn't mind seeing more.

I think the association with the Golden Company really is the giveaway. If they abandon their commission for the first time ever, it's not going to be for one of their enemies. And the baby-swapping could just as easily serve as foreshadowing for Aegon being passed off as a Targaryen.

I think Aegon is the real deal. Jon Con knew Rhaegar well and says he looks and act like his father. Tyrion met Rhaegar before and he sees the likeness in Aegons features and mannerisms. There are several allusions to baby switching and the possibility of baby switching. Verys would do anything to save the child if he thought it was the best hope to save the kingdom. Also, if Elia thought they were going to kill her and her children but knew she could save one she most definitely would and she would clutch that baby to her chest tightly to hide their face so no one would notice that it wasn’t actually hers. Why just the baby? A baby could have been close at hand belonging to a servant or visitor. Meanwhile, Verys used the secret tunnels to take Aegon away with no one the wiser.

Honestly, Martin has laid out his story in a way where both explanations are perfectly plausible. There is enough set-up for both things to be true, but only one can. Both scenarios are complicating the story and I very much love the Blackfyre Rebellion backstories and for them to become that much more integral to the happenings in the main story is very intriguing, so I hope for that one to be true

My big thing is Young Griff has to be a dragon. Wether it’s Black or red matters not, but if he actually were just some peasant boy Varys raised to think was a prince I would be disappointed

This is a series that should be recommended to every young man and woman. Great example of a strong, intelligent, capable beautiful female hero. We dont have enough examples of these. Love this series and you describe it well!

I think he is the real Aegon simply because that is more interesting

The theory that Young Griff and Sansa are the same person is speculative, but possible. One reason is Sansa's experience with identity manipulation, as seen in her "Alayne Stone" persona. Another reason is the narrative timing, with Sansa's storyline having a gap when Young Griff is introduced. Additionally, there is a possible Targaryen connection through her Stark lineage.

She goes from an ugly duckling to a superhero. No hate. I love the books but Weber made her into something phenomenal. She's rich, has political status, an Admiral in the two navies. Everyone loves her and she has this cat thats like a maine coon but it can kill everyone in the room and it had 6 legs.

Also Tywin probably never saw aegon he resigned as hand a year or so before the rebellion he wasn’t at court to see aegon. The mountain doing that was probably happenstance.

I've been a fan of Weber since I read Mutineer's Moon. I kept going with his Honor Harrington series which is fantastic. Great, reliable, fun writer. I met Weber at a convention in the late 90s. Really cool guy, very funny.

to your point, looking again at the “Mummer’s Dragon”-maybe the “cloth dragon” doesn’t signify he’s not of true blood, but that his ‘house banner’ alone will be enough to win over the people (as opposed to Dany who conquers with real Targaryen dragons)
