Fish actually drop bone meal sometimes so you could technically do this a lot faster

the only thing you would need in that situation is a string by killing Spiders, from breaking Cobwebs, Chests so I could be faster with excellent luck but realistically this could end up being slower than just killing a skeleton
You know that breaking the leaves with the sword is faster

would it not be faster to get a sapling first when you get the wooden sword then it is only bones you need but if you take a dirt block after you mined the tree and its leaves with your sword a dirt block go find a cave with a skeleton kill skell block of dirt sapling and then grow it this would save the time from going back to the surface as well as the time at the start of the run
