    hi andrea, i’m not sure if you’re still active (if i could get a response i would be so grateful). i’m currently a masters student at the london school of economics and political science. i’m studying development studies and for my bachelors i majored in sociology and minored in french and healthcare management. i’ve done some volunteering work, about a month in burundi at an NGo for human trafficking, among other short ventures as well. i’m concerned that getting into peace corps is highly competitive and my concerns are that i do not have enough work or volunteering experience to be considered. what do you think my chances are of getting accepted if i apply?

    • @danrobrish3664
      @danrobrish3664 Месяц назад

      I'm not sure if Andrea is still active either, but since I'm a currently serving volunteer, I can put your mind at ease. I'd say you have a very good chance of getting in. Before COVID-19, they were only offering an invitation to serve to about one in six applicants because they had so many people applying. As of 2024, they have far fewer applicants, so they're having trouble getting enough people to fill cohorts., Your resume is exceptionally strong. A master's degree plus volunteer experience in Burundi is a lot stronger than most applicants have. A well written motivation statement and strong recommendations from your three references, plus a good performance in the interview (normally conducted via Zoom) will be very impressive. I'll be surprised if you don't get an invitation to serve with all that. Once you get the invitation and you accept it, you need to go through legal and medical clearances. They won't care about speeding tickets, so if you've never had any trouble with the law beyond that, no problem. Medical is the tricky part. It took me a long time to get through that. I went into more detail about my experience getting to swearing in here: robrish.com/the-road-to-swearing-in/

      @@danrobrish3664 thank you so much for the insight dan! with renewed hope i’ll certainly give a shot. i have no medical or legal issues so hopefully that’ll make the clearance process a bit easier for me. and congratulations on getting in, i hope you are enjoying the experience and find it fulfilling! your article looks insightful, will give it a read asap!

    This is helpful. I was wondering how I would go about expressing what i want in a site. For example, I'm in the interview process for a country where I'm familiar with one of the native languages, due to me being around a lot of people for the past couple of years who are from that country. And s I'm thinking I'd like to be placed in a region of that country where they speak that native language so that I can focus more on learning the "professional" language that I'll be teaching in.

    Why can't they afford to pay the volunteers a living American wage? Kinda unfair when we ultimately need to move back and "real pay" like 50k a year would genuinely make sense so they are not thrown in a terrible position once we return home.

I've watched other videos where other say the PC pays the host family direct for hosting and that goes with groceries. Or where you renting your own apartment ?

I think the most stressful part would all the unknowns and getting set up with a new apartment and starting over in terms of furniture, getting a car, etc. I love the idea of easing back into it all rather than feeling like you have to get started with everything right away.

    I really tried to like my Osprey Farpoint but ended up giving it to my daughter and I got the Eagle Creek 40l and I LOVE that backpack. Lighter, love that it unzips like a suitcase. It was more comfortable on my back. Weight is most important so I tend to pack clothes that are light weight. Last trip was 3 weeks through Greece and it weighed 14lbs so I was able to get on and off all the hopper planes with ease.

    Hello, My name is Harry Dwinell and I am an eRPCV who served in The Gambia from 2017 to 2020. I am currently a documentary film student at The New School in NYC and am in the process of making a documentary about Peace Corps that touches on potential ways the organization could reform through conversations with other RPCVs across generations. While it is not the focus of the documentary, there will be a section that touches on the evacuation. That said, while trying to find additional videos for this section I found this video and I am curious if you would be willing to share any videos you may have of the evacuation itself? Of course you would be credited. If you have any questions about the documentary, me, or my intentions please don't hesitate to ask! Thank you!
