She’s not septic. Bad doctors miss sepsis, true, but septic patients LOOK. Septic. Could they at least have put a little sweat on her?

Indeed, doctors are idiots and they always run with the simplest solution that gets you out their face and out their patient room. You’re fat, go work out. You’re a drug addict, get help. It’s all in your head, go to psych. You’d be surprised (or maybe not) at how much of medicine is just making educated guesses

I'm a chronic pain patient and ANY ER VISIT IS LIKE THIS. Got stung by wasps and couldn't find my epi pen, "We don't prescribe pain meds in the er. " . I am sick of it. Last time I had a terrible fall, hit my hip and wrenched my shoulder. They did hip xrays but nothing on my shoulder. I have a good pain doctor she ordered an mri. I had 2 complete tears on my right shoulder rotator cuff. I hate the ER, I don't go for myself. I'm caring for elderly parents who have dementia and once a month something send us there. They have good insurance and boy they will test the hell outa them.

Ugh i had back pain and vomitting. They gave me iv pain meds, it got worse. They gave me more and doc made a "gee you must need a lot to get by." He tried to dismiss me. Patient advocacy came by, i told them what happened, another doc cme by and learned i had massive kidney stones. Opiate pain meds made it worse as they tightened the squeeze on the stones

As a nurse 25 years I've seen this too many times to count. I've also left 2 different hospitals because I reported a Dr in each ER who assumed a patient was drug seeking even though there were other signs something was obviously wrong due to blood work but the Dr dismissed it saying the lab results showed a slight elevation in blood count but it wasn't enough to say anything was wrong. Luckily another Dr checked each patient because one had an appendix about to rupture and the other had started to become septic from an infected tooth that had been removed a week before and wasn't given antibiotics that were strong enough. I didn't want to work with arrogant Drs like that so I moved on both times. I eventually started to do hospice homecare for the last 15 years until I myself became disabled due to chronic pain and fibromyalgia as well as sciatica. Now I'm on the other side and had a doctor try insinuating that I was just drug seeking until I showed him my films that I always keep with me because I never know when I'm going to have a flare up and the pain becomes unbearable. One time I was at my mom's and was in excruciating pain to wear I vomited. I later found out the EMT that took me by ambulance noted that she basically thought I was faking and drug seeking. That explained why they let me lay there in the hall of the ER in pain crying and asking for help to the point I was vomiting and even had an accident which was absolutely horrible and embarrassing and another patients daughter went and got me help. These two nurse assistants took me in a room and handed me two wash rags and told me to clean myself. I was so weak and sick I couldn't move or clean myself which was horrifying to me. Finally they cleaned me up if that's what you want to call it and put me back in the hall even though there was a room I was just in. I was able to call my daughter who came immediately and asked for a supervisor. She is a Substance Abuse counselor so recognized right away what was going on and once I found out what the EMT said I definitely understood but it wasn't true and if it was a patient shouldn't be treated that way. It's literally demoralizing. Luckily the shift changed and I got a new team who was wonderful and apologized for what I had experienced. I made a complaint to the head of the hospital but as I expected nothing was done. Come to find out I was severely anemic and needed a blood transfusion due to heavy bleeding I had been having due to a cyst which also caused even more pain then what I'm used to experiencing day to day. I also had what Dr thought was a bad stomach virus which had been going around so that explained the vomiting and crapping myself..lol. I can laugh about it now but it wasn't funny at the time and its definitely not funny for the people who go through this every day.

Something similar happened to me, and I’ve never even used Vicodin or anything like that in my life. I get that the vast majority of the time it is drug seeking, but still can’t generalize. And emotional pain is still pain.

I went to the ER 3 times over horrible leg pain. I had weeping legs from lymphedema and had sepsis. It took my wound care doctor 2 tries to finally force the ER to admit me and that’s when they saw how bad it was. I was there for a week either IV antibiotics twice a day with 2 different antibiotics and then had a pic line for 10 days and had to go in 2 times a day for treatment. Idk where I would be now if my doctor had not put her foot down then. I remember telling her there was no point going to the ER because they wouldn’t help. I was crying and ready to just give up. I knew I wouldn’t be alive much longer if things did not improve and had no hope. I was writing out a will and making end of life plans. Now just over a year later and my life is still slowly getting better.

Being female means you are never allowed to have pain without an immediate visible cause. It's often " in your head", "just menstration", "you're over reacting your just tired" , "youre making it up", "she is seeking attention" "must be a dr*ggie" being a woman means you are far more likely yo not receive proper care and to take MUCH longer to get diagnosis. This is not helped by the fact women were excluded from most medical studies until only a few decades ago because our cycles were inconvenient to studies 😂

I went to the hospital with gastritis and they drug tested me. What was crazy is that my G.I. Doctor who i was seeing for my stomach trouble worked in this hospital so a full history of stomach issues was available to them to review but they treated me like a crackhead. Gave me some anti nausea meds a painkiller and sent me home. I know they drug screened me based on my appearance. I had just started locking my hair so I know they profiled me. I’ve never been drugged screened before because of stomach pain. And I’ve never been drug screened since then because I refuse to go back to that hospital and let them treat me like that. Any place that pre judges you with prejudice is not going to treat your illness with care. They’ll make assumptions and just let you die thinking they “know.”

One of the problems in America is people immediately demand narcotics. Then howl no one told them those drugs are addictive. Those same people NEVER even try Tylenol or anti-inflammatories. They simply demand the narcotics. They do not want to try a TENS unit. A nerve block. Nope. Gimme narcotics. Then they blame EVERYONE else when they get addicted. I'm made of metal from a rocket blast that damaged my organs, spine and I WORK. My arm was ripped out of it's socket and i went right back to work with a full cast doing medical care for my fellow warriors. Why is it people with horrific injuries causing loss of limbs and paralysis can be athletes and work , but people in america are "disabled " for every ridiculous BS possible?

My sister who had taken me walked up, demanded service and said she’d sue if they made me wait longer. Behold, had I not started the antibiotics when I did it would have gone into septic shock killing me

Sean is often immature and annoying. Her double checking when something seemed off is what saved his life. Otherwise Sean would have never even seen the patient. "You cant learn if you dont listen?" Everytime he has one of his genius autism moments when thinking it shows his sifting through things hes read not things he listened to. His genius literally comes from the accute memory of everything he reads and later experiences. As far as her being helpful, she is a student it is Seans job to help her not the other way around. Sean thinks everything is obvious, and for even more obvious reasons, fails to undrrstand that not everyone sees things or thinks as he does. A very poor quality for a teacher to have. They breezed past this issue with his being a doctor, but now his job is more than simply diagnosing and cutting. He must teach and nurture the next generation of doctors. If he can not do that then he is nearly usless. He would save thousands of more lives by creating more qualified medical professionals than he ever could with his own two hands.

I was treated just like that in my 30's and early 40's. Turned out I had renal failure from lupus but quack snob doctors kept telling me that I just needed physical therapy for my pain and feeling like I had the flu everyday. They wouldn't even run blood work. Take a couple Tylenol and go to physical therapy. After many years my low grade fevers hit 105°. I went to the ER and that's when everything changed. My kidney infection turned into abdominal peritonitis. I lost my kidney but better today than I was then. I can't stand going to see doctors anymore. I always get treated like a drugged up housewife seeking drugs. It's disgusting

I had a 2 year search for an answer to my pain . 5 doctors later it was discovered that the inside of my ankles had dissolved and couldn’t be seen on x rays or with blood work because it was inside the bone . Emergency surgery and rods later im fine but pisses you off when a doctor can’t find a reason and gives up saying you’re wanting drugs or it’s in your head .
