Carolina Beach has always had a bad reputation due all the bars. Growing up on Wrightsville in the early 70’s, there was not that problem. Mainly surfers smoking a little weed. Also the price to stay/live in Wrightsville was quite expensive where by Carolina Beach was a flea bag market. However, that was not the case for Kure Beach.

I came to the coast with some fishing buddies in 1970, got lost and have been here ever since. The one perk you omitted that directly benefits Senior Homeowners is that our property taxes are reduced to 50% of the published rate the first full year after your 65th birthday (you must notify the Tax Dept. as it is not automatic). That means that while the $300,000 home owned by a "Gen Z" couple would be paying about $2,565.00, the Senior Citizen couple would only be paying about $1,284.00 a year in property taxes. I also remember that when I moved down here in 1970, Wilmington was so quiet, they rolled the streets up at night during the Fall & Winter months. As far as the traffic goes, I travelled back and forth to New York City 2 to 3 times a month on business. Wilmington traffic is nothing compared to "The City". The traffic problem in Wilmington is that people simply don't know how to drive.

As a walker and a former Wilmington resident (way back in the 80's), this looks like a great walking route. I did a couple sections of the walk back in December when I was there for a day. I can almost smell the marsh looking at this. Thanks. -H

Back in 1967 or 68 a group of us put bubble bath soap in the fountain at Third and Market;those were the good days in Wimington the way natives say it.

The traffic gives me so much anxiety I really hate it. So much so that I plan on leaving after I develop my career a little longer. It's a nice area but driving around is so stressful to the point where I don't want to go out.
