I finally found what I was looking for
AWESOME!
What a beautiful pack - congratulations! Gary Nolan is the Big Red Machine member hardly anyone ever talks about, but a Big Red Machine member nonetheless. And 1975 was their year.
Thank you!
Nice grab! I was thinking about bidding on that one. I have 5-6 graded mini cellos. Definitely my favorite pack 😍
That’s awesome! Nice collection!
My local Walmart has all their boxes behind locked glass cabinets. So many idiots out there nowadays. When people are not afraid of the consequences they do stupid things
Gave a video like. Really fun to see a '75 pack, love that set. Congrats on the fun addition to the collection, Brandon👊
Thank you
I am old enough to remember paying the .25 back in 1975,
Hey Brandon, nice cards! Love the 75 set
Wow, great pickup!
yeah nice the blue/yellow is probably my favorite
That’s a great pack!!
Thank you!
I don't think I've ever seen a mini cello up close. Maybe at some long-ago National. That is just superb.
Thank you so much, Michael! They are definitely scarce
Niiiiiiice! Brett and Yount are both in there!
Nice work. Seems your purchases are getting better each video! What made you bid for that one vs buying the one on eBay with a buy it now price for less
I bought this one because the colors on the top card, and this one is cleaner.
Sweetness!
It would be difficult for me not to open the pack
I hear you, but the good thing is there are plenty of 75 Topps mini wax packs, rip away my friend! Cellos are much tougher to find. There are also rack packs, and they are incredibly rare.
Good luck in your new academic year! I think this is the first time I've ever seen you in a jacket.
Thank you!
Gave a video like. Thanks for sharing
They are everywhere.
I hate the mega markups from auction to EBay. Spoke with a hobby friend (Tim M) expert about this. Guess I never really paid attention before to this. I’ve always wondered what would ppl do if they came across a 72’ Topps BB cello box at a garage sell at an 80 yr old woman’s house. The packs/box looks clean, and she had a $50 price tag on the item. Would you buy it for $50 and run, or speak with her about the true value and offer to help sell the box? Would you say let’s go 50/50, or maybe take 6(?) packs as payment after authentication? Box would maybe fetch $100K, so might clear $30K after fees/taxes. Or you can take 6 packs free & clear-while also helping her authenticate/sell the remaining packs?
There is no way I could buy something this valuable at a garage sale for a pittance. I would have to tell the seller what they actually have. I could not live with myself otherwise.
I couldn’t do that either, wouldn’t be able to live with myself
@@brandonsbaseballcards8637 right? Wouldn’t you be thrilled to take 6 legit packs free & clear? I def would. Worth more than get a check for $26,469 from REA/BBCE or whatever.
I never thought of this before, and I've seen thousands of cello pack: Do cello packs have actual roller marks?
That’s a great question, and I actually don’t know enough about the process of sealing cello packs to give you an answer.
2 nice packs.
Thanks Jason
Gave a video like. Great packs! Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your next video, Brandon
I prefer OPC only for hockey packs, yet those are cool packs.
Niiiiice!
Two famous quotes that have long applied to this hobby/market are, "There's a sucker born every minute," and, "A fool and his money are soon parted." It's a condition we must accept, however grudgingly, as part and parcel of an unregulated market. I admit that a few times during the pandemic, I got nervous about something that looked good to me and paid more than I should have. (At least one is BBCE wrapped, thank goodness.) But in buying those things, I did it with an eye to stashing them for the long run, not trying to flip. And I think anyone who is going to shell out a vigorous chunk for an admirable collectible would do well to adopt this attitude. I've seen intelligent people urging this very point of view since 2022.
Just subbed! Your channel is fantastic! You are a true collector. Everyday people. Some card channels on RUclips are all about making big money. I can really relate to your channel. Got back into sports card collecting about 3 months ago. Hockey and baseball is what I collect. Looking forward to catching up on all your videos.
Wow, thank you so much for the kind words! I appreciate the support! Happy you are back in the hobby.
Gave a video like. Fun you got two Bo Jackson cards. I liked the Montana, Munoz and Howie Long cards as well. Enjoyed the video as always
Appreciate it!
Gave a video like. It really doesn't bother me much that people buy something like that and list their item to the moon. The minor annoyance for me is having to scroll past the items like this to find items that are at least in the ballpark to look at. If someone wants to tie up their funds in any item and relist it for over double what they just paid, that's fine with me. A bit silly to me, slightly humorous in a way that so many people seem to do this and like a said a minor annoyance for me personally. Wish there was a filter to remove the listing fluff, that would be a blessing. It's too bad eBay doesn't have a way we can hide certain sellers from our feeds like RUclips allows to select not interested or don't recommend channel, that would be tremendous.
I agree, it would be great to separate the fluff from the fairly priced items!
I just enjoy it, I do it for fun and not for money.
It's never a bad time to look at baseball cards, but they cheer me up too.
The hobby is a sanctuary for me, a respite from the stupidity and stress of everyday life. Also, it scratches that collectors itch which I’ve always had. The investment potential is just a small part. Well said, brother!
Amen to that brother….totally get it🤙🏽
Well said Brandon. The hobby is a good stress reliever.
Thanks, Terry
If you're teaching in college in one of the Southern states, I imagine there's frequent stress. As far as the value of this hobby, as I one told some teenage customers, "Boys, a good woman is still just a woman, but a good baseball card is an investment!" (Don't let your wife see this.)
Haha! That is a great quote my friend!
Gave a video like. Having a hobby is huge for my overall quality of life. So many benefits. Thanks for sharing
Good talk
Thanks John
Fun rip! Enjoyed it
I've seen some guys try to chew the old gum to impress their girlfriends. Their girlfriends are never impressed. You did get a decent selection of stars and Hall-of-Famers.
Haha 😆 thankfully my wife would never want me to do that!
Well he bought the top of a speculative overheated market and then after only 2 years sold as the market cooled and the economy slowed. Not a great investment strategy. Packs are potentially poor short term investments but solid long term investments. Check what similar packs were selling for 10 years ago. They are way up since then even after this correction in the market.
They may be good potentially long term investments, but even that is purely speculative on your part. Depends when you invested and what you bought.
Great price! I distinctly remember opening one of them in 2002/3 with my buddy, Mike. I had just bought it from BBCE, and after a few beers I brought it out. Lot of fun. Think they were $100 back then.
I noticed the 76’ racks dropped quite a bit.
I think the crash in top-notch items that went sky-high during and right after the pandemic was inevitable. Besides professional speculators, there was too much uninformed money floating around. It took buyers awhile to realize it, which is normal with our economics. I think it'll be a couple years before we begin to see a reset in this high-dollar sector. But as we've mentioned in some of your previous videos, the market for modestly priced unopened seems to be picking up juice. You showed good examples!
I think you are spot on about the uninformed money entering the hobby in the years following the pandemic.
Good looking out. I like the comparison.
Thank you!
Gave a video like. Awesome! Thanks for sharing
very cool…man i wish cards still cost that much lol
AWESOME!
Oh my gosh, I love those graded trays! FYI, I did see a non-graded supposedly sealed tray of three 79-80 Hockey packs (Gretzky’s rookie year, big bucks) that were subsequently opened and each pack had obviously been searched. Huge disappointment. But I think you are good with these graded trays. 👍
The general consensus is that Topps didn’t make hockey trays in 79. I’ve seen Kurt C. open one that was 100 percent fraudulent.
Wow, I'm familiar with what wax trays are, but I don't believe I've ever seen any that old! How were they configured in the case -- x number per box, then x number of boxes per case?
Good question, I know there were cases of them, but I don’t know how many trays there are per case!
I did a little sleuthing - lo and behold, Trading Card Database may have it. Going to 1979 Topps, then Packaging, you can scroll down and see a case marked 2/24 ct., #458-79. The way it looks, that unusual packaging may be the one.
There’s a few 69’ Topps BB wax trays floating around. BBCE used to have one for sale in like 2002-3. One sold for $5K in a Mile High Auction in the mid/late 2000’s.
Love it. Wax trays are always very brittle so it's tough to find them in decent condition.
Great stuff
