BY putting a flame up to a snowball, most of the melted water is just being sucked up by the remaining show just like a sponge. remember snow is mostly air and has empty pockets that will suck up the water due to surface tension. Its called "Capillarity". Kinda like when you pour the syrup on shaved ice, or like a said, a sponge. The literal definition of capillarity is "the tendency of a liquid in a capillary tube or absorbent material to rise or fall as a result of surface tension". At a vary small scale the heat from the flame is turning the snow into water vaper too but at a minuscule level, is not the main reason you don't see water dripping from the snow when held up against a candle or a match flame. Also the "Burning and turning black" is just soot from the incomplete combustion sticking to the show. If you really want to test your "fake plastic snow", leave it in a jar with the lid closed and leave it at room temperature and see what happens. I'll give you a hint... It'll turn into water . Mind blown

if the snow is plastic then the same thing should happen when you do that to a ball of plastic - try it with a ball of styrofoam and see if the same thing happens!

The burning is just soot from the lighter itself It is melting and is getting reabsorbed into the snow because it's not solid ice so it's acting like a sponge Or it's being heated so fast from direct flame and it's being turned into vapor which is called sublimation. Here is some basic tests you can do Try melting it in a pan and not with a direct flame Or put the snow in a cup and melt it with your lighter under the cup the snow with eventually melt and you will get your burn marks on the cup instead of the snow Try dripping water onto snow in a cup, it wont just roll off, it will absorb into it

The black is the silt from the lighter. Take your lighter to anything it’ll leave black. It don’t drip because snow isn’t compacted like ice is. Air throughout the snow causes the phenomenon. Same way you can have a fire in an igloo without melting it down.
