Easiest way to strip car paint!

This is too easy! No angle grinders, no wire wheels, no sanding! This makes what is normally the longest and hardest process of restoring a car, the quickest and simplest part of the entire process! Here’s links to the materials I used: all in, I used about 8 quarts of citristrip, and 1 roll of the stretch wrap. Nice work Allen! I wish my floors were that straight forward lol. It all depends on how the structure is around it. You do some great work! Keep at it!
How much did you use and how long before it flash rusts
I think I used 4 tubs of the stuff all in all. I treated the whole tub with metal prep immediately afterwards so flash rust wasn’t a problem. Everything is still good short of the areas I’ve been sweating over…lol
Great video thank you from Culebra Puerto Rico
It definitely works but as well will bake that muck on in the direct sun
My MGB will be going on one of these! Thanks.
The unistrut really made it easy. Hope yours mounts up as good!
Wow 😮...The internet's amazing. Thanks
Looks like a great rotisserie can I ask you how much did it cost you
I think I had around $150 into it…hard to remember now, but I think I added it all up in the video.
Looks like a great rotisserie can I ask you how much did it cost you
I've been using Citristrip for decades. I've never used it on a car but for furniture whether it's varnish or paint it's great. Smells like oranges and non toxic. It's actually citric acid.
I had the same good results. It is slow but allowed me to scrape 95% of the old paint/bondo onto paper and really cut down on the sanding dust. I felt like the whole process was less toxic since most of the old paint/chemicals stays kind of locked into a wet goop and not spread all over in dust form. This stuff doesn't burn your hands if you get a little drop on you either. The secret is the plastic and time. Sitting overnight is best I think.
Thanks for the ideas! The larger container in the cleaner is brilliant. As stupid as it seems, I never considered that the capacity of the cleaner could exceed the top of the machine. Mind you, I never really thought about it, but now I do. I have been having trouble getting into the corners and crevasses of the front wheel spindles of my '28 Pontiac with my sandblaster. Even the enamel is hard to get off with the sandblaster, which surprised me. I can't wait to see what my ultrasonic can do with the spindles using concentrated degreaser. Getting the front axle or the straight six engine block in there may be a little trickier.
I'm going through this right now with a NOT cheap aluminum radiator from Champion. I'm hesitant to hack up a $225 radiator. Why can't these companies get this right? Also, if you raise your radiator up a little in the mounts you can get them to line up a little better and still keep it under the bonnet. Thanks for posting.
When I first mounted it, everyone said to put it as low as possible in the mounts for clearance issues. I thought that the champion rads were of a much nicer quality and would have lined up…that’s really surprising to hear!
Looks like a triumph spitfire
Yes it is!
Really great job on cleaning it up. What is really impressive !!!! Is the rotisserie you made out of unistrut. 💪 I made mine many years ago steel and unistrut...unistrut man's best friend, good clip thanks
I use that stuff for everything. And when you’re done, use it again! Thanks!
Did you make the rotisserie Yourself?
Yes I did. I made a video about it over on my channel if interested.
Nice video... Been using this stuff for years on different projects.... never wrapped anything in shrink wrap though
The wrap seems to make all the difference.
that is awesome. thanks so much for doing this video. gotta go ahead and pick up this product and try it out.
Thanks for that, panels looking good as new.
Great tip, I will be using that on my car soon. Do you have any issues with the hoa where you live?
I haven’t had any issues yet…lol. Ironically, if you can see my trash can from around the corner on Thursdays all hell breaks loose and a get a letter in the mail. But if I strip a car body on a rotisserie in my front yard, all is good! Oh the joys of having a HOA
lol you're all excited about this but before the EPA claims old stripper and other chemicals are destroying our planet while they fly lier jets for 20 mins instead of a couple hour drive paint stripers actually worked and you could've done that in 10% the time and effort
True, but this worked now and I’m still pretty excited!
awesome technique. gonna give this a try on my 73 charger I'm working on. if possible, could you possibly do a video on how 6ou prep your bare metal after you pressure wash the citrus strip off to prevent flash rust? i was very curious about that ever since io watched your first video.
The plan was to show it this time but the weeks worth of nonstop rain changed that. But I tell you what, I still have to strip the little odds and ends on my hood this weekend. I’ll make a quickie video of me treating the bare metal afterwards just for you. So keep on eye out for it.
@@Upspitscreek awesome. that would be greatly appreciated.
Thats awesome.. I’m restoring my 1972 Cutlass 442 and Im going to give this a try
Hope it works as good for you as it did me!
look at Kleen strip concrete and metal etch at Lowes Its the phosphoric acid like OSPHO at 1/2 the price
I have tried that in the past but it seemed way too aggressive. But for those that don’t mind or don’t know, it’s a great suggestion!
Thank you for sharing 🙏
I am a recovered car guy.. I did love restoring cars, but condo living and minimum wage aint enough..
Good progress!
Keep in mind you want to cover all surfaces with your plastic wrap. So even the inside panels need to have plastic encapsulating the goo, just like the exterior panels are wrapped. It lookss like you just enclosed the whole car in wrap, which is great for the panwls that the plastic is touching but insside that bubble is air that is drying out your goo to fast! It will do more, faster with less product and time if you can get plastic on it! Great job though, no matter how you do it its daunting
I’m actually seeing the opposite happen. The stuff that touches plastic seems to dry faster and need another coat, whereas the open areas stay wet and come off better. Who knows, as long as it works I’m fine either way…
Use a laser beam cleaner machine.
I’m willing to bet those cost more than $150…lol
I appreciate your straightforward delivery, and I will be following to see how this project turns out. Im restoring a 79 fiat spider. Maybe we will find each other on the road someday and see which one wins lol
Wow, I had my doubts, but the results are amazing. Thank you so much
I used to work on aircrafts for a few years and I was doing everything from taking them apart and putting them back together and saw how they prepared them for painting and they used the same stuff but it was still on a trail basis and if you let it dry in-between coats of applying the remove it works a lot better also the power washer needs to be at least nine horsepower to get the best results and you can use a no chemical substance to stop flash rusting megadime and another natural substance is available I just can't remember because it's been a long time since I did that.
Very useful video. You just saved me days of sanding/grinding! Just curious, did you build that rotisserie yourself?
Never mind. I just found your rotisserie video 🤣
The problem with using paint stripper is no matter how much you pressure wash. Primer and paint will never adhere properly afterwards. Professional paint and body guys never ever use stripper. We media blast.
Hiya my friend stuck it out to the end Wow very impressed amazing product great video citrus strip seems like it would be more kind to the environment. Won't annoy the neighbors and inexpensive too ❤
I would think that it will have varied results because there are so many different levels of finishes on things. Some may be too tough for it to handle.
Yes, probably so. But I would think that if you’re restoring an older car, the paints may be more prone to break down as mine did. If you’re trying to do an entire car as I am, I think it’s worth a try for $20
Short question..why didn`t you show a picture of the bucket of slime?))) There is a ton of similar stuff out there and my guess is that some work some dosen´t ...who is the manufacturer..would help a lot with that info..Kudoz for the video))
Sorry about that. There’s a link in the description so people could find it easy.
When I did my floor pans I over lapped the metal with full welds on both edges and seam sealer when done. I coated the underside with bed liner.
Good to know Greg. Did you use a rattle can bed liner or something thicker? I don’t recall seeing that in your videos, unless it was real quick or o just missed it. Also, good to see you got your spit out and about…I liked seeing that on FB!
@@Upspitscreek I didnt film that part but maybe I should have. I used rattle cans and brush on seam sealer. Yea got her out and she did good. Got just over 50 mile on her that day.
ghost busters kinda look🤣
great video, you look so happy. i'm impressed !
Hell I'm impressed you got plastic wrap for 20 bucks. Never thought about wrapping it with plastic wrap. I'm going try this, Thank You for the tip.😮😊😊
Great way to make a rotisserie! Luckily a buddy of mine had already built one that i was able to use on my project.
I would suggest trying to warm the pail of Citrus Goo in a bigger pail of hot tap water. Check local listings, but i bet it would flow in to the "nooks and crannies" better. Who here is the right age to remember the english muffin TV commercial that talked about "Lots of nooks and crannies to hold the melted butter"? I do.
It’s probably the English muffin commercials that make me use the phrase..lol

Did you have an issue with flash rust after pressure washed?
Not really. I treat everything once it’s dry. There’s a video on my channel covering that.
@@Upspitscreek you know how after acid it immediately starts flash rusting?
I learned this trick several yrs ago with a very heavy painted trunk I heavy coated with citrus strip, cover in plastic. 3 days later pressure washed it and every spec of paint gone
I wish I’d known a little sooner…my frame was a PIA
@@Upspitscreek pia? Pickles in action?
I've tried to use citrus strip on a lot of stuff over the years. I never experienced more than a 5% success
It seems like the plastic makes all the difference in the world
it always feels good to see progress on a project and the light at the end of the tunnel gets a little closer!!
Anytime you can strip a car....and not obliterate the environment or yourself and not loose metal......is a winner. Citristrip® Paint & Varnish Stripping Gel is much safer then the alternatives..........just make very sure that no other cars and or paint is near the project while the stuff is active.... and clean up...... spatter ect can be a huge issue. The active ingredient is N-Methylpyrrolidone

Was that a lacquer paint job, or 2k?
Not sure. Whatever they used in the UK in 1976
