very impressiveI have a 1993 7740 sle,has started noise in 7 th and 8 th low gear like knocking or lashing,,,should I open it or just scrap at this stage.Fancy a working holiday in Ireland ??
Done not scrap it. There always worth fixing. I bought 7840 sle that wouldn't move and was sort of neglected in a back garden in a housing estate. Problem was a loose fuse.
Nice work man. I just wanted to ask about transmission controle solenoids! I have Ford 8240 1994 16x16 AWD and Ford 8340 1997 16x16 AWD. Both of them works like a charm except when i select gears from 2 to 3 and from 5 to 6, i can feel a wery uncomfortable kick. On 8240 kick is so hard that and feels so bad that i have to press clutch in order to select normaly in to 3 rd or 6 st gear. Every other gears works perfect. The problem is just in selecting those gears , it does not effect working in those gears, there are no slipping. Maybe you have some idea witch solenoid i have to look on?
Cacurs Farm is it the sle gearbox where you move the handle forward from 1-4 range to 5-8. Ours was doing awful ripping and kicking get into gear and would pop out of gear as well, if you lift the floor pan there's another panel on top of the gearbox which you can see a bunch of cogs, if you move the handles who,e it's off you see them moving forward and back. There's adjustment down for it. But if the cable is stretched it work right no matter what way you do it, we just shortened the cable and it solved it. Also a loose fuse solved it not going into gear at all. You will figure out the adjustment thing when you look at it.
You are in 5th,6th,7th and then eight then when you clutch the gearbox automatically jumps to 5th. Love the 40 series nice simple and lots of grunt off the 7.5 litre Genesis/Powerstar engine
