It's not a quad, it's a four (IV). Quad is four scullers with 8 blades. A four is four rowers (sweep rowing) with four blades.

It’s a 4x+, coxed quad. On some difficult courses, or just tradition in some cases, regattas require coxed quads for safety or smth
