This is the video I wish I found before I bought the double detent. I haven't had the same issue where you 'got bit', but the detent itself -- holy hell. I have never felt such a soft detent from a slipjoint! I thought my knife was a lemon. Thankfully I only bought it to be my desk knife for mail, packages, etc. so it won't be too troublesome, but for EDC it looks like I'll have to buy the other.

The first thing everyone learned with a knife. Do put anything between the blade and the frame you don't want cut. That isn't a flaw its a bad judgment of the owner. If you buy a car that goes very fast. Is it your cars fault it was going 100mph ?

I have both of these as well (I like both of them) and I tested it and do agree that there's potentially an issue but I think it has more to do with how you're holding the knife. With a slipjoint, one would place the thumb on the spring and the inside of the index finger on the tang portion you pointed out, because, yes, it reduces the likelihood of it cutting your fingers when it closes. But on the double detent, holding it the same way doesn't make sense as there is no spring. Instead, the double detent can be held by choking back a bit and wrapping the index finger and thumb behind the faux-bolster. That way when it (inevitably) shuts closed on you, it is caught on the mid-stop by the double detent and doesn't slam against your fingers (which is the point of the double detent). When you take this into account, both knives are equally safe or unsafe to use. Nice to see these in a video, though!

I'm sorry, but the reason you got bitten by that knife is because you mishandled the knife. No one, and I really do mean no one, places their thumb in front of a blade like that. Why? Because everyone knows to keep their fingers out from between the blade and handle.

I don’t have many traditional pocket knives but never knew they made them in double detent. I don’t see the benefit so thanks first off for cluing me in. The patina on the original is looking sweet.

We get unbranded ones here in Asia and surprise surprise, the seller will do free laser engraving for you. So I put a tanuki on mine. The whole thing plus shipping was like 45USD, feels like I robbed the seller LOL

Double detents are a strange animal. I tried a Kizer one over the weekend that my friend has and it's... interesting. Fun to fidget with but I think I prefer a backspring slipjoint for usage.

People always wank on about leatherman. I get it. I edc either a Charge and Surge. But although the Champ isn't a plier-based it still has more functionality than either. It also has that cool nostalgic appeal. Real SAKs have curves.

I have the other Bibury im more then happy with it. I've had many leathermans. They used to be more affordable. The last one i bought was the crunch. I still have the soft bits. I believe leatherman isn't what everyone claims. The Bibury is my first multi tool in a long time. I can't find anything wrong with it. Its as good as leathermans and better with 1/4 driver plus 7cr is better then 420hc so in theory the blade should be better. I would probably still use leatherman if they weren't so expensive. The warranty was never worth the hassle. If something fails doing what its designed for i don't want another one i want a better design! Maybe im different then most but being a mechanic tools are my livelihood! I recommend get a bit set from wiha best bits ive ever found.

Iv been using the Gordon a couple of months. Its my work carry and I beat it 5 days a week. This replaced my Bibury clone because its lighter and opens smoothly. My bit does not have the divet. It's square. I stab into thick industrial cardboard regulary. I've cut plastic wrap off metal cages and accidentally hit the metal bars many times. Good blade strength. I keep a carbide sharpener at work. I ride the blade hard and I have to sharpen before every shift. I have used the saw to cut three nails for safety concerns. Flawless and quicker than expected. I could have gotten a hammer, but this was more fun. No play in my plier heard. Its been dropped at least 50 times. Great buy for the money.

I especially like that it uses standard bits and not the product proprietary ones the leather man uses and rakes the customer over the coals on the price. For just a small part of what I save on the SQT I got a 40 bit set from Klein tools that will go in the car kit with the multi tool.
