Did you notice at the beginning of the race that all the police are white, both male and female?

Looking at the difference between Suriname and french Guiana, Suriname should have stayed with the Netherlands
I see what you mean, they still maintain a relationship with the Netherlands though and they help out with infrastructure etc
As soon as you stepped into french Guiana the difference was palpable, nice new cars, no potholes, clean streets, no litter, no mud. It might be a relatively poor part of the first world, but it's definitely the first world.
I will have to go deeper into both places to see if that remains true everywhere
